Suggest u have a good talk w yr DS's tr to assess his strengths and weaknesses in coping Chinese. I spoke to DD's tr before and when I told her that we came fr Eng speaking family ( eats potato ), she was surprised that DD can cope. Just that one of her weaknesses is translating Eng sentence literally to Chinese which may end up with different meanings.

Was informed by nephew ( in RI Sec 2 now ) that HCL comes handy for those who opt for Chinese SAP Sec Schs like HCI, Nanyang Girls etc. Not for RI and RGS.

Yes, confirm correct, e.g. T-Score 260, if HCL distinction, it will be 260+3 for HCI, but for schools such as RI, RGS, NUSHS, its 260 only. HCL does not affect the T-Score.

If it's a SAP school, they may allow kids to apply through the bilingual domain (e.g. NYGH). If so, then HCL is important but if apply to schools that do not have or have other domains such as Math or GEP, then I suppose it's not that critical ... this is what I had observed during DS1's DSA but nevertheless, it may change ...

Tao Nan has given out the mock SA2 papers - Eng, Math and Sci for the kids to do this Sep holiday. Good to expose them early on what is expected for the actual paper. Nothing at all fr DD's school. Wonder other than Tao Nan, have other schs given out the mock papers ?

I think my DS school is really behind schedules for most of their syllables.. Sci for example : Only fully completed Matters, Heat , Water Cycle. nothing on Light & Plant yet , and only just started on Digestive system .
wonder how is the TR going to catch up with a few more wks to go before exam :? Probably hv to rush thr the topics once school re-opens.. :imdrowning:

Thinking aloud - Can S seek to take O-level privately to gain a credit and then get it exempted?[/quote]If I'm not wrong, the process should be, you take CL (O Level) in Sec 3, followed by HCL (equivalent to A Level) in Sec 4 & if you satisfy the criteria, you do not have to take CL or HCL anymore for A Level. This was what happened during my time when I took HCL. I did not have to take Chinese anymore in my JC time.

You take HCL at O level in Sec 4. If you obtain minimum D7, you're exempted from taking MT at JC. Of course if you want to take CL at A level, for eg Chinese Lit, you're more than welcome to do it.
