With no statistics, how do you conclude that \"many of them r prc\"? I think we should refrain from making such baseless statements.
You go n ask those in Nanyang, they will tell you that. Many in Nanyang knows many of them are PRC but just don't have the exact figure to tell you lo as the school is not showing the data. I never said they are older kids but I just said many are PRC. 'Many' is subjective. To some it may not be many but to some, it may be many.
I don't have statistics but I can tell u many of them r prc!Melodies:

Do you have statistics on how many of these top scoring students are true blue 12 year old locals? -

Learning Lab charges $1000 per subject per mth and they only accept students who come in the first 10% in their sch exams. my colleague's son was rejected as he was not from his school's top class.
err.. the free is not quite true la... S1000 per subject per term (NOT month la)la. -

How many GEP students get offered DSA in RI (for eg) compared to number of students offered DSA under music or art? For either music or art, usually only 1 or 2 each year. Many more accepted under GEP, right? That's why it's rare for anyone to complain about those other domains, I'd think? Even the number offered under sports is a smaller number comparatively.]
In that vein, then we might as well call for DSA to be scrapped for athletes, musicians, etc. Also 'unfair' advantage for them right?
This is an interesting phenomenon. I observe, so far, no calls to scrap DSA through other domains. No one quibbles about their 'rights'. Only geppers are targeted... hmmm. Intellectual prowess (for want of a better description) vs other talents... and schools should only welcome talents other than geppers with open arms? Otherwise they are deemed as discriminating against mainstreamers. :yikes: And that will be unacceptable! Cos, you know, they are the majority... -

I knew at least one GEPPers scored 252. but she has two DSA COs, so the score does not matter.clay569:
That's why they got into GEP in the first place...
See that is the problem! When I asked why many geppers can't score well though some did very well! The geppers' mom will jump n say the geppers r not prepared for scoring psle!! R u saying they r not truly gifted? -
Gentle reminder to all. Do not turn this thread into a GEP vs mainstream discussion. Thank you.

See, cannot deviate from thread lah.

I read from other threads,(?) one parent suggested the possible reason this year having many scorers >265-276 is the easy papers, which cannot differentiate the high ability students. I tend to agree with this view.Melodies:
Some observations for this year PSLE results:
1) NYPS alone, about 43 students score 270 and above this year. My observation is that there are too many of them this year as compared to 2011. (this is about the figure for the whole nation last year, I could be wrong and please feel free to correct me and clarify.)
2) Same observation of having many who has scored 270's in other top primary schools too.
3) It looks like many neighborhood schools are producing some top performers who have scored 270's now.
What does that tell us? Hmmm :scratchhead:
Anyone can weigh in?
The list is going to be like:
+ It looks like Neighborhood schools are not bad after all.
+ Cut off point in top sec schools will go up? :yikes: n go on...
+...
+..
On top of more than 40 kids scoring above 270, Nanyang has also a very high percentage (50% ???) of kids who scored above 250 while the percentage going to Express course nationwide is only 63%. IN addition, some schools' highest scores are only 270 or below , I wonder if MOE can throw some light into this. Maybe other schools are teaching the wrong things or not teaching effectively despite having very hardworking teachers or other socioeconomic factors …and despite the fact of so many students going for tuition.
In addition, giving us info of percentage quality passes will give us a clearer picture of the subjects in the schools which have shown improvement and those which need to be improved. It is not uncommon to see quality passes hovering around 50% for some subjects in some schools. -
Hi,
May I know what documents do we need to bring along on 20 dec when we report to the secondary school?

I tend to agree with this view.
Is it true that there are many more high scorers than previous years? I tend to believe that it is more or less similar to previous years..... But the collection of top scores from different schools created the impression that there a lot more high scorers. Previous years schools have also been around 270+, just that nobody bother because the top scorer is already announced....cherryc:

If you look at the T-score computation formular, you would realize it is the opposite. When the papers are more difficult, the difference between the average mark and the very high marks are bigger, that will result in a higher top T-score (and more people having very high T-scores) compared to other years with easier papers. Whether the papers are hard or easy, the mean T-score should be the same, around 200.
