My dd is offered to BAcc in both NTU and SMU. Anyone can offer your expert advice to help her decide? Thanks

      Congratulations !
sorry, cant offer advice....juz some thoughts....
-NTU location is really far n remote ( unless u are putting up in the west)

-SMU offers entry to double degree programme, subject to availability.

For your info, smu graduates are better paid n more in demand by employers .

In general, they are good at presentation skills . Like my company , my boss like to take in SMU graduates as compared to NTU.
But it depends on your Dd personality . If she is the extrovert n out going type, Smu will suit her well.

Agree that SMU grads come across sharper. The reality is communications skills are imporant, especially when all else the same. So even if she isnt the most comfortable in speaking up, it may be good to learn to cope with it early and in a relatively safe environment than say in corporate world.

Ya. I have the opportunity to train both the new recruits from SMU n NTU.

SMU grads are more versatile n communicate better. They will tend to create opportunities for themselves by participating n volunteering themselves in company events. Whereas NTU grads , they tend to be more focus in the main work scope n not so participative in other events. But they are more reliable workers to ensure the main job functions are performed. As for SMU grads , sometime they take on too much events n projects that their main job function become affected.

Given a choice, I will choose SMU .

True but NUS ranked 25 in reputation and well recognized worldwide

What is her interest? Also good to bear in mind that With accountancy degree, it doesnt stop her from getting into non accounting/ finance role in future. And vice versa. I know of many high flying finance professionals who had a non-accounting first degree.

                      My daughter is offered:

                      a) NUS double degree in Accountancy and Computer Science (no NUS scholarship)
                      b) NTU Mathematical Sciences (with Nanyang scholarship and CN Yang Scholars Programme)
                      c) SMU double degree in Accountancy and Information Systems Mgmt (SMU scholarship result is pending)

She is going to choose b. Reasons being - 1) more confident of getting a good honours degree in NTU, 2) unclear if Accountancy is going to be her cup of tea, 3) NTU scholarship covers tuition fees, annual allowances and 4-year hostel stay.

I think the 3 local universities (referring to NUS, NTU, SMU; not sure about SUTD and SIT since they are so new) are the same, in terms of acceptance by local employers. It is more important to do a course that one has passion in, and is most confident of doing well i.e. getting a good honours degree (2nd class upper or 1st class). If one can perform well in the job, no one really cares which university you come from.

                        Pardon my ignorance.

What is the career prospect of this Maths Science course?
