Hi

my 8 yr old dd has been with this tr since 4, now has to stop due to tr going overseas. my fren recommend ano tr, we did a trial...this tr says the notes in do-re-mi, my dd prev tr says c-d-e....so any difference in saying otherwise? my dd doing grade 4 now...so when do scales, the new tr ll say now g-major scale, and says start at so,.....

not a music person, totally clueless, can someone assist here...

Seems like the new teacher uses the 'fixed do' system. Actually it does not really matter as each teacher has his/her own preference when it comes to orally notate a note. If your dd gets confused, you could gently ask the teacher to consider using the previous teacher's system with your dd instead.

Ya. my dd sure gets confused now, she says she dunno what note the tr was saying. she need to go through the sequence.
i am not sure if its alright,cos i thought the score sheets usually use c-d-e notation instead of do-re-mi.

Only if you are playing pop sheet music then they will use letters for the chords so the pianists can easily add improvise extra notes.

Generally, easier for pianists to think in terms of letters though the ability to sing well in solfege is definitely useful as well especially for aural. Instrumentalists and vocalists prefer to use solfege rather than letters.

There are many possible reasons why you can't pitch accurately; you should consult your teacher to analyze the root of the issue. Some of these possible reasons:
1. Not familiar with the key signature/scale
2. Not familiar with the pitch pattern
3. Poor singing technique
4. Singing in the register that is out of your vocal range

I would suggest finding out the actual reason first as to why you can't pitch. Even if you practice a lot but wrongly it's only going to worsen the situation. Anyway, for self-study at home you can try using Auralia software; I use it with my more advanced students and it is quite useful as the software can provide you with immediate feedbacks if your pitching is accurate.

I can’t even differentiate the 3rd and 4th interval when 2 notes are played successively. my teacher asked me to sing do re mi fa soh. Sang correctly. Once he played 2 notes and asked me the interval, i am completely lost. Can’t fit the 2nd note anywhere either in mi or fa.
He will have to figure out how to help me. I have no idea what to do

Do mi
Do fa
Do so
Followed by interval going down:
Do ti (C b)
Do la (C a)
Do so (C g)
Do fa (C f)

That is how my son's teacher taught him.

I am little confused by what is your exact difficulty?. What exactly is your difficulty? Do you have difficulty pitching an interval from a given note e.g. I give you D and you must sing a perfect 5th above it. Or you have problem identifying interval? e.g. I play D then A and you must tell me the interval i.e. perfect fifth.

You play D then A. i must tell you perfect 5th. You play E then A, I must tell you perfect 4th. Last week and today I got them all wrong. Especially major 3rd and perfect 4th. perfect 2nd is ok. perfect 5th usually ok. very frustrated.

Ask yourself if the interval played sound like a song you know.
