Rysel toys: an educational aids/toy shop
Not sure where to post... My apology if this is not the right place.
I stumbled upon Rysel Toys in Waterloo center, that sells educational aids/toys for kids.
http://ryseltoys.com.sg/products.html
The owner, Linda, is very helpful, knows what her products well, and has a lot of helpful suggestions. The shop is more for kids with special needs, but has items that maybe of general interest for kids with delayed motor skills development.
I have no relation to the shop, but a very happy customer. -
RE: Online homework - getting a tablet
From what i underatand, IPad does not support flash, which is common on edu websites. Have you tried using a browser called puffin? It is supposed to work.

RE: Homework
Thanks for all your feedback. My kid used to be in full day childcare, and I thought she will have more time in p1 since school is halfday. It has turned out not to be the case once the homework starts coming in.
It is nice to know that the amount of homework varies so much from one to another school. For the same school, does the amount of homework varies from one teacher to another too? -
Homework
Would like to know how much homework is your p1 kid getting, and how long it takes them to complete.
My kid is getting homework once every 2-3 days, which takes 10 - 45 min to finish. On a particular weekday, she got 3 pages of maths, and 2 pages of pinyin, to be handed in the next day.
Talking to her kindergarten friends, most of them is not getting anything, apart from the weekly spelling. -
RE: All About Badminton
Suggest you google to find the contact of the following badminton schools:
Flymax badminton
Sintec badminton
Bai song badminton
Li Ning badminton academy
They operate at different parts of Singapore eg. Flymax at tampines and hougang, and find one that is convinent for you. Cost for group coaching is about $80-100 a month, one coach to about 6-8 kids, for 2 hrs. -

RE: All About ABRSM Grades & Support
daddy2007:
I am wondering what's the point of getting a 6 years old child to achieve a Grade 5 Distinction? What's the value in it? Or what is the benefit? Just to show the child is talented or to boast the teacher's credential?
My 6 yrs old has been learning violin since 3.5, on her request. She has not taken any exam but she is doing grade 4 scales, exam pieces. As she is going to p1 next year, I asked her teacher whether she has any plan for my daughter to take exam. She said, \"your daughter is very motivated with her practice, and there is no reason to take exam.\"
It is quite enlightening for me to think of exam as a motivation tool. But let's be honest, if there is exam, how many of us would study
The ability to express yourself with your instrument is a rewarding experience by itself... -
RE: I feel that we should not focus on only classical music.
Ryon.hwang:
But do the kids like it?
It depends on the kid: my six years old called the Bach double violin concerto \"the world best music\"...
Was at a CD shop last week looking for something. The entire classical section has been condensed into 3 rows, with most of them are \"best of Mozart\", \"essential Bach\" etc. I grew up listening to all sorts of music, and these days, I only listen to classical and jazz. Age is really showing. For me, there is something timeless, and inspirational in classical music... For my other half, classical music is something that put him to sleep
