    • RE: Anyone changed water heater(drum type) before?

      ksi:

Parents' were using Rheem and it leaked after 6/7 years. They love the warm water so much that they keep it on almost 12 hours a day. After that I got Perla from Sim Siang Choon and it leaked within the warranty period :!: . I called and they replaced a new piece in a box. Parents were angry because I bought it. End up dh helped to replace (and I assisted) unless we could find a contractor. I was very angry :x and told my parents that I will not bother about their things in future. Now it is leaking again 😢 . Don't buy Perla.

Thanks hardworking for sharing your experience. Per insider, I probably cannot just replace with any brand so have to look at ariston or jovan now.

Since we (dh & I) are quite good at replacing it, I am thinking of getting the same Perla for my parents, again. Can save on installation. LOL.

Herbie, is this a F&E trip? Are you buying the JR/train pass? Japanese are super law by law people, better make sure that you quote the correct number of pax.

    • RE: All About Dental

I paid $800 for teeth whitening last year. I thought the package comes with a home whitening kit. When I asked for it during payment, I was then advised that there is a little * next to the item and the * below spelled out that a home whitening kit is given after dentist finds that you need it (something like that). It was followed by a sale talk to buy this and that to maintain the whitening effect. You know lah, the things they said before and after were different. Before; it was mentioned that the home whitening kit is in the package. After that, dentist said that your teeth are okay so no home kit will be issued but you could buy this or buy the special toothpaste or cream, blah blah blah. I felt cheated that moment. If I know that I need to maintain them, I will not do it! I rather buy the whitening kit from Wastons. My teeth has lost its whitening effect after 3-6 months. I find it a total waste of money and time.

    • RE: 7 New IP schools

My friend’s son scored 25+ and couldn’t get a place at HCI. He went to his second choice which is a ‘band 1’ school. He scored 7A1s for O levels and went to RI (JC). If now, he would have gotten into one of the new IP schools and missed his opportunity of studying at RI. It is messy.

    • RE: [Bishan] Primary Schools

My friend’s ds didn’t get a place at CHS after balloting at phase 2C more than 10 years ago. They are living opposite CHS and GY is further from their home. The boy had to take school bus to GY instead of walking to CHS. He was offered GEP and went to a co-ed GEP school instead of CHS. Most top students are being offered GEP at P4 and almost all of them would transfer to GEP schools. Schools like GY tend to lose their top students after P3.

    • RE: What you do want or hope your child to work as next time?

We have found mentors for ds if he is taking mbbs or llb. Ds is our only child and we want him to be happy on top of everything. For more than a decade, ds hopes to be a bus/train driver. He has 3 game wheels, the newest is a Logitech Ferrari but his favourite is still Creative, to practice his driving skills. After so many years of practices on the PC and PS2, he has decided to be a train driver because less accidents and traffic rules. Don’t know whether his ‘dreams’ will come true. When he was in primary school, he asked whether drivers must learn music. I replied, yes they need a back up plan. Yes, music teacher is a back up plan.

    • RE: Which to choose: Church Kindy vs PCF

I registered ds at 3 kindergartens including AK. But my parents were against it because they were worried that ds might not wake up in time to board the school bus. I had no choice and registered at PCF and ds attended 3 years of PCF till K2. He used to dislike CL but he just blossom after K2. He never have any CL tuition till now and he is still doing HCL at secondary school. I am very grateful to PCF for building ds’s CL foundation. Also, PCF is nearby and ds left home 10 minutes before school time. Find one that is suitable for your child.

    • RE: How to toilet train children

Ds was still wearing pull-ups at 3+. Very maru. It seemed like one day, he could pee in the potty by himself. But he would take a pull-ups from the cupboard and passed to us to put on for him whenever he needed to poo. He actually poo in pull-ups. No pull-ups, no poo. We hid the pull-ups so that he couldn’t find it and he poo in his pants for a few days. After that he sat on the potty. He refused to wear diapers at night. I tried to put on the diapers after he slept but he would wake up and cry. No choice, just let him be. He stopped peeing on the mattress after a month. We replaced the mattress and there hasn’t been any accident till now. Last year, my friend’s dd (3+) was still wearing pull-ups day and night as compared to her peers. Now at 4+, she is totally pull-ups free and goes to the toilet by herself at night. Some of her peers still need diapers at night although they were toilet-trained (in the morning) at a much younger age. Just let them take their time, they will out grow the diapers or pull-ups.

    • RE: How much do you spend on the kids' tuition/enrichments?

DS is in sec school now. Difficult to find time for enrichment or developing other interest. Now only has music and English. Total is >$700 per month. The music fee increases as the grade gets higher. No choice, cannot u-turn. I have talked to his music school principal, if go poly, DS could work as part time music teacher with the school. Have told ds the good news that he could earn money after O levels. 😉
