    • RE: How much should I give my parents?

      cherrygal:
I think it's best for the grandparent caregiver to spell out the allowance amt before taking on the role. Then the parents can decide if they wish to hire a maid instead or send to infant care. Trust me, I would rather pay $1000 to my parents than pay a maid $400 a month. The level of care is totally different.

Not many grandparents even want to help out nowadays... they rather work or sing karaoke. Taking care of babies is hard work! So, do thank your lucky stars that they are willing to help. Also, I am extremely grateful to my parents for helping us. Their generosity will be remembered when it's my turn to look after them.

My plan is to pay whatever my parents want for 18-20mths, then send the kid to childcare. It would be back to just the token sum after this critical period. Just bear with less unnecessary expenditure for now. Don't feel heart pain over the extra money. It's all for the good of your children!
true... but some people think childcare might be better as they will not be spoilt by the teachers. i got friends whose kids are spoilt rotten by the grandparents. but who can blame them rite?

my son is also 3 this year. and whenever a kid or someone tries to play with him, he will run to us and stay away from the kid. not sure how to get him to play with them. he is soooooooooooooo reluctant in doing so… hope he gets better when he starts his nursery…

    • RE: Place/Ideas to Celebrate Wedding Anniversary?

      It's our 7th Anniversary!

Bought a small bouquet of Lililes and was delivered to her office.
      Cost me S$60.00

We shared a set of steak and pizza. Plus cocktail drinks. Total cost S$110.00

Too full to eat desert later.
(BTW, we are both small eater)

Congratulations! Wow! So romantic! I'm sure she must have loved having the lilies delivered to her office. I don't know if I can speak for all women, but while I always tell my hubby not to waste money on flowers, I always get a thrill receiving a bouquet in the office. Not just because the flowers are nice, but because I get to show off to my colleagues!

      :politebleah:

But now I work from home most of the time, so no chance to show off ... :slapshead:

Actually, we also celebrated our 7th Anniversary this year. Took afternoon off to go pak-tor (lim kopi and chit-chat without the kids interrupting - best!), then had dinner at home with the kids.

No flowers. And I had to choose my own gift.

But at least the gift was something I really wanted ...

      😄

if i ask my wife to choose her own gift, she will say BO SIM! 😞

      Your statement makes sense.

Easily more than 80% of players are traders than investors. Vast majority of traders fail to recognise that the road to be a successful one requires proper education/training in the areas of finance, economics, humanities, technical analysis and psychology. IN all, their standard must be like pro inorder to compete effectively. Mny times their opposites are highly trained including ther likes from ivy league, oxbridge and other top unis with seasoned mentors after their graduation.

For retail investors, the highest chance of a comfortable retirement is still thru equities. However, must be properly trained to survive in the market.

Those Big Boys (institutional players) are the market. They graduated from the Ivy League, have IQ higher than anyone of us here, have access to information faster than us, have better tools where retailer investors don't have. What is the chances of beating them?

Maybe investing in index might be a better choice. Just ride the market with them

ya index is an \"easier\" way to invest but then, investing in STI will have to be more patient compared to other indexes like HSI and Nikkei.
