Iām sharing a few negative experiences with LCentral.
First, the curriculum is not well designed from the perspective of a group of english educators. You can go take a look at the pictures and words used for each level and compare for yourself.
Second, the staff had changed the teacher without prior notice to parents. I feedback that this should not be done but no action is being taken.
Third, the same staff was giving different statements regarding the terms and conditions. So it would be best if you request for a written copy to protect yourself.

RE: [Bukit Timah/Central/Holland] Preschools

Initally I wanted PAP. But I realised that they have no standard programme. Little Wings though also under PAP jurisdiction, have very different program from PAP. for the playgroup portion, it's 2hours.
Can share why you prefer My First Skool? What you don't like about Little Wings?Mathmaniac:
Not any that I know off either...
The nearest is Little Wings @ Blk 32 Holland Close. Not sure about the reviews.
I saw their syllabus. I didn't like it. So I am choosing My First Skool @ Blk 18A Holland Drive instead.
Though it's a childcare, I think I will pay full day and send him in only for lessons. Lunch and nap at home.
Anyway my son is born in Dec 09, think can only enrol in LW when he's 30mths old.
45mins outdoor play and 45mins singing or self-play.
15mins toilet break and 15mins check temp.
I do not find it productive at all. My son is in BEK now. It is a 1yr program only. So next yr I have to find another pre-school that will see him through till k2.
I love BEK cause my son always have something new to teach me. He has handicraft from school. There isn't self-play as the teacher always maximises the time to let the kids learn something new.
For My First Skool, I think standard wise, it's probably better as it's a new school and there is a guideline for all branches to follow. At least I know my kid is more or less learning the same thing as other kids in the many branches of MFS in SG.
Thanks for your insights. I'm also looking for a 1-yr N1 programme only. -

My son is 1yr old soon. Seems like there are many enrichment classes for him to start already.

RE: Suggestion for 1yr old
happydaddy:
I heard many people start sending their kids before 2yrs old, but i'm not sure how old.too early lah. let them enjoy their childhood.
only popular and cheapo - need to wait
which category or $$ u refering to?
Mine was born in Dec last year, so if I send him to N1, it will be next year! But since he is still so young, I'm only sending him to N2 and skip N1. -
Suggestion for 1yr old
My son is turning 1 year old very soon. Iām really wondering if I should send him to any enrichment classes or child care. Or is it too early?
I heard that for some nurseries and kindergartens, you need to register much earlier than primary school. Probably 1-2 years in advance?
Sorry if I sound kiasu. -
RE: All About Weiqi and Chess
qizai:
In terms of permutations, weiqi is definitely more complicated. However, chess alone is difficult to master.
Weiqi is more complicated than chess, in terms of the trees of possibilities.smurf:
Weiqi is more fun I guess...it's not as simple as forming lines, but you need to place the 'qi' at a strategic place to eventually beat your opponent.

And there are many ways of playing weiqi whereas for chess, the movement is fixed.
But for a child, chess pieces look quite cute and varied, even though their movements are fixed.
Both are games easy to pick up. There are various similarities like opening strategies, middle games, end games, etc.
And both reap the same benefits in helping the mind to develop more logical thinking.
