tingting2424:limlim:A good excuse for my kids to ask me to buy iPhone/iPod for them....They'll claim that traditional toys are too dangerous.. iPod is safer.. Sounds familiar.. My 2yr old nephew wans an iphone.. Lolz..And I'm one of the few parents out there who have only bought like less den 5 toys for each of my two kids. Lolz..DD is almost 11 months young. We haven't bought her any toys (yet). She has 2, inherited from her cousins. One is a musical mobile, which she doesn't play with anymore. The other is a push-cart toy which she doesn't dare to play with as it goes too fast for her comfort, since she's just started to walk.If we did start to buy her toys, DH and I reached a consensus that we wil not buy her any weapons of destruction i.e. guns, knives etc.Forgot to add, her favorite toys (for now) are my iPhone and her bedtime storybook

buds: Every family has their issues, just because one family is featured on Page 1 doesn't exactly make my family any better than theirs. Though it is sad to hear / know of such tragedies and empathize with the situation, it is a good way to reflect on how sound my family is to avoid such incidences featured in the papers. Somehow, i find we'll never really know what is in store for us in the future... no matter how hard we have prepared for it. God will test us in many ways. Truth be told, i've been tested heavily... on a personal level and also at family level. It is really up to us how we are going to take it, resolve it and get on with our lives positively from then on... Just my sharings.. :oops:Hey buds, u spoke my mind... :hugs:

Luckily for us, DD hardly pays attention to the trailers at MRT stations cos they are high up and silent. She prefers to chat with us instead. Also, when she is at home and we have the misfortune of watching local TV where we are bombarded by such scenes, even during the airtimes of children's shows, she will mute the TV and shut her eyes. Or change the channel. Or leave her seat after muting the TV, to go do something else meanwhile. Then, she'll ask us to check for her if the \"stupid, violent\" stuff is over before she returns to her seat.I'm glad we inculcated this in her from very young, partially by showing her how good non-local alternatives are (via DVD, etc.) and also harshly criticising the insensitivity of local TV airtime planners. Sometimes, if the shows advertised are of bad taste or have little or no value other than to shock and provide low-brow entertainment, we tell her exactly that and explain to her why we think so. Then, we show her better (much, much better) stuff.

Very true!Every child is different and every parent is different. Have you been consciously using different approaches to nurture your 2 sons? what is their age gap? Seem that you are a "master" in parenting, would be interesting to hear your experiences.

RIP Charmaine Lim. I cried buckets when I got to know she passed away. Such a young and innocent child! ='(Really heartbreaking and very devastating. As a parent of a cancer patient, I truly understand how the mummy is feeling.Saw Charmaine and mummy before in KKH when I sent my daughter for treatments. Cyn is a really strong mum and I wish that I can be as strong as her.

Inner strength so that she can face life's adversities. Compassion as that her heart will always be filled with love and so her life will be filled with people who love her.

Hi Rita SpunkI'm thinking along the same line as you ie work-part-time or stop working when DS starts school. Only thing is mine will be in P1 in 2 years time I think it's easy to start a business but making money from it is a different story. I hope that my boss will agree to let me work part-time and reduce the workload accordingly. I have tried part-time before and it was so not worth it. I was doing 70-80% of the work with 50% pay. I lost a lot of weight then.So this part-time thingy, you may not be getting the good deal you are hoping for.
