dear mums,
thank you for all the encouragement and advice.
i thought things picked up in term 2 esp during the holidays. we spread out the school homework in the mornings and had plenty of fun in the afternoons. unfortunately, things changed very quickly in term 3.
the helper was repatriated suddenly (after much drama) and i was managing household chores and kids. unfortunately, my temper became very bad.
the girl received many "pay attention!! please see me!!" from teacher (mainly due to carelessness or did not pay attention) and increasingly she became:
1) even more defiant and challenges me all the time
2) started showing "attitude" ie eye rolling and long cold stares with long slow blinks
3) telling lies
4) keeps telling me "Don’t be rude!" - I am giving her instructions firmly.
i try persuasion and reasoning - Doesn’t work. i tolerate/ ignore her taunting, tell her to stop…but she goes on and on and on. until i explode and cane her (instead of discipline… it is full blown anger).
i feel helpless.
she is reached new limits of SLOOOOW…

RE: All About Life Without Maids
i’m new to this maid-less situation.
we’re second week into maid-less situation and i feel v stressed up.
the maid was repatriated because of the trouble she created. The last week of June was sheer madness because of her phantom medical ailments and she left a mess. the yard was a mess, her room was a mess, the sink pipe was dislodged and my gas burner is destroyed and will have to be replaced. she dumped a whole load of cleaning material without permission and i have had to re-organised.
it’s been a mess and i’ve the "undomesticated goddess" to borrow Sophie Kinsella’s term.
like babycutie71, i feel bogged down with the housework and the cleaning up after cooking is horrible. it is even worse that my children are slow and picky eaters.
the kids feel the difference because now i’m just short fused and have no time to sit down with them to run through school work/ revision or just read books.
upset. frustrated. -
RE: Any advice for slow-eaters?
hi, any mums have advice for slow eaters?
my 4 year old has always been a pelican but the situation has worsened. her teacher has given feedback that her lunch in school has stretched from 30 minutes to 1 hour and she doesn’t seem to know how to chew.
I had noticed that she was eating slower and slower at home and thus went to speak to teacher and received the above feedback.
at home, she can take 1.5 hr to slowly munch a small portion. it’s killing me and no amount of cajoling, persuading, screaming, waving cane seems to help.
we have recently stopped the tv dinner/ lunch. she is still being fed most times despite us trying to encourage her to eat on her own. we vary the foods eg rice, porridge, macaroni, animal shaped pasta, udon, ramen with chicken and fish and leafy greens but she is just PLAIN SLOW.
she supplements her small meals by taking milk by bottle.
it is v frustrating. any ideas? -

Reading vs Comprehension
My child can read reasonably well but at this stage, has problems with comprehension questions that requires inference and/or deduction… Those questions that have a little * next to them.
i don’t blame her because i think at 7 yrs, their minds are naturally tuned to the factual type of questions…
how do we help them build up the Comprehension (deduction/ inference/ critical thinkin) part?
this applies for chinese comprehension too.
thank you in advance.
