I do consider P1 maths is just 1+1 ... up to sum to 100... it's seems that I'm totally wrong, really feel stress now

Now they do 1+1 in kindergarten, P1 more complicated

yup, I am a mummy into puzzles and maths IQ questions, so I expose my P1 boy to such questions very often. Some references some of you may want to take a look:

      1) series of Olympiad Maths
      2) Just Education clinic and Distinction Maths assessments - they have million dollar questions
      3) Fan Maths assessments - Heuristics and Speed maths too

      just 2 cents worth

      Hi kero,

But I am just curious, if HYPY is taught for first half of year, then how they test Chinese spelling huh? You mean test as in HYPY test?
yups, test in HYPY in SA1, my P1 boy in NYPS this year, has his chinese spekling for Sem 1 in HYPY and some characters. There are 10 Chinese spelling fornightly/weekly including 5 or 6 HYPS phrases and 4 to 5 chinese characters. then come Sem 2, more chinese characters.

Most Kids find that HYPY is easier, cos using letters, characters are tougher due to strokes.

is that the title of the book?

yes. But it's a little tough finding the book in the heaps of assess in the bookstore. I think books 1 and 2 may not be published yet.

I have actually send in appl for my boy in learning lab with his results, they called me and said that there is an eng class available for him (i did not send him for any eng enrichment at all in P1). I was contemplating to put him in, but it was a little too ex for me. He is spending me around 600+ a month with other enrichment, so I forgo learning lab and decides to teach myself

I came across this assessment book in popular on zoom in vocab for creative writing from casco. I am not advertising it, but find the book quite good. !Bought book 3 for my p1 boy. A little tough for him, but he learns the good phrases in the book, they give a sample 1compo for 1 pic, then a parallel cloze passage for the kid to fill in the good vocab, then mcq, vocab, fill-in-blank. At the end of the whole exercise, I asked my boy to rewrite the compo using the helping words on his own.
      hopefully that helps him

maybe some of you can check out the books 1 to 6

      Dear Redrose,

you are spending quite a sum on your gal, she must be quite busy for the whole week. Such a sum must be affordable in such a crisis.

    • RE: Yamaha or Cristofori

my P1 son started his piano lessons with a private teacher at beginning K1. He has made good progress with the teacher. I din try piano schools cos I tot it would be better with a private teacher one to one as learning pace will not be affected in group sessions and some piano schools has madatory rules in terms of the number of years you may have to go through before taking exams.

My son took his grade 2 practical early P1 after taking 2 years with the teacher and will be taking grade 5 theory early P2 cos the teacher said he could comprehend the questions and do the papers. I did hear that piano schools are enforcing on the basics like hearing skills and sight readings. But if you want your child to proceed at his or her pace while learning music instead of being slow down by others or by different teachers, then private teacher is good. I believe private teachers can teach without rules by schools.

thanks Working_Kiasu_Mum and chamonix for the clarifications.

am i correct to say that if the question is...
Tom has 12 sweets. He has 3 younger brothers. He divides them equally among themselves. How many sweets will each boy get?

it is 12 divide by 4?
teachers wont use lang. 'among themselves' cos it will not be logically right. If they use that phrase, you will need to approach the school for clarification.

they should only use 'among them' (which is only bros w/o Tom) or 'share equally with them' (Tom and bros).

What is exactly on your Q stated in the paper?
