[Just a few questions:
1) what should be the requirements for sby that is going to DSA via academics to IP Schools in the 255 range? What should be the average marks overall?
Schools will state on their websites the minimum requirements for applying via DSA (academics). At the minimum, I would assume at least 80% overall for P5/6.
2) For the GAT do you just need to pass to qualify for the next round?
The schools will have their own minimum requirements which is not revealed to us. It could be a pass or even 80%. We don't know.
3) Also, what is the chance of a mainstream pupil that is in the top 10% of the school that is going to DSA via academics to RGS/RI/HCI/NYGH and only has a few achievements?
Even students who have topped their entire school cohort from P1 to P6 have not been successful in their DSA applications. That doesn't mean that other students don't stand a chance. Just that it depends on the individual and his performance at GAT, interviews, selection tests etc.
4) Will it help by including CCA/Sports in the portfolio if you are going to DSA via academics?
If you're applying via DSA academics, your results are the most important. Other achievements such as CCA are a bonus. -

Not all popular secondary schools accept dsa - via academics.
Some secondary schools do not offer this. They’ll officially reply that your child still have to rely on his / her Psle scores, for the 4 individual subjects.
You need to write in to that secondary school of choice you have in mind first - whether they have this in the first place. -
My understanding of DSA to the top 4 schools is as follows. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Most Geppers will be accepted to the top 4 schools.
Mainstreammers’ chance is extremely small. Maybe around 30 seats per school and these already include those DSA through sports, arts and music. -

GEP students will not need to sit for the entrance tests (GAT and HAST) if their Primary school exams scores are always above 80 or 85% (depending on schools). However they will need to attend an interview as well. For RGS, they reserve Approx 80 plus slots or so for DSA annually equally split between Sports/Others and Academic. It will be quite a shock for some girls taking it for the first time.Hi, I suspect this question has been asked many times before but i couldn't find it under search.. My DD is trying for SCGS DSA via choir and needs to go for GAT in June.. I know no preparation is required for the general GAT test, but to ease our nerves, I would like to know if anyone knows of any samples questions so i can show DD what to expect? a glimpse of how the questions look like, more to prepare her mentally so that she won't be sitting for a test cluelessly.. all i know now is from the GAT website and it doesn't have a single question as an example..

There are 60 questions to be answered within 20 mins. The questions gets increasingly difficult. Most of the questions are logical reasoning based. Not too dissimilar to IQ test type questions.Isn't GAT General Ability Test?
I guess they can ask anything under the sky, ya? -
I have a qn.
If a gepper obtains less than 80% for his average in P6 SA1, does that mean that his chances for RI Dsa is almost nil?
That’s the impression I gathered after reading through some of the posts here. I know those ave less than 80% will sit for GAT, but unlikely that they’ll award any CO to these students?

Google search for 'non-verbal reasoning tests' or 'non-verbal IQ tests' and you should be able to find some sample questions. It may not be exactly what is used, but should give you an idea. -
Hi, I am not sure this has been asked before.
If my child is from an affiliated primary school and has received a wait list from one of the top schools during the DSA process. If we put down this WL as our first and only choice during exercise period, what happened if the WL is not converted to CO during PSLE results day? Can my child use the affiliation status and apply to the secondary school using the affiliated secondary school cut-off points during S1?
