A ballot is a ballot some will win some will lose

But why give this suggestion to ask parents give the cage a hard spin ?!
What I can think of is to politely ask the school admin/teacher in charge of spinning to spin harder or few more rounds.

Imagine if every parents request to spin it then who should the school select ?
The school we were balloting in invited the parents to spin. Probably wise to avoid all sorts of groundless accusations.

No one is arguing that the ballot is not statistically fair, it's just there are occasions when you might be able to improve your chances if you notice the balls are not being shuffled between picks and your ball, in this specific draw, is in a stagnant area (where it has no chance of being picked).

even you change to your inlaw address now as it is nearer to school...it will also be considered as 1-2km ... it doesn't give you any edge to it.

            from MOE site
            http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/statutory-declaration/

            Balloting
If statutory declaration is used, children who are registered using either the grandparent’s or the parent’s sibling’s address and residing within 1 km or between 1 km and 2 km from the school of choice are balloted together with the other children of the same citizenship residing between 1 km and 2 km from the school.

Ok now since there are suggestions to the parents to voice out the unfairness encountered during balloting, those parents attending the ballot this afternoon can give it a try and feedback to us if the school will comply accordingly.

All the best :)[/quote]Where did I say it was unfair? Read my posts again. I distinguish between the process being statistically fair on the one hand and being able to improve your chances in a specific draw on the other. I never asked for parents to do the selecting. Please, if you are going to quote and paraphrase my posts at least read and understand them first.

                    Hi ,

In all fairness, the balls nos are also randomly placed that is not in alpabetical order. At the start, the spinner also lay out the instruction from MOE on the spining method. She is to spin gently clockwise 3 rounds and then anticlockwise to catch the ball. Hence, it really boils down to luck as to what is the number ( or banding ) that your child’s ball is. So, MOE may want to tweak the instructions to the school to give the cage a few hard spins as those who have seen the balloting will testify that the balls in the middle does have a higher probability of getting chosen.
DS ball was the last to be picked. He was no, 21 out of 28 nos just slightly out of the middle band.
