When she was 3yo.

You can also consider abacus. I sent my younger one to abacus when she was 3.5 yo. By the way, also withdrawn before entering primary school. There is a thread on abacus

hi sleepy or anyone who can share his/own thoughts


my dd (this yr n2) is currently in kumon math doing level 3A. so just started learning basic addition. i like kumon for its structure and systematic way of teaching young children foundational math. problem is - after doing it for 6 mths already, she's stil complaining and groaning everytime i ask her to do the worksheets. only 3 or 4 pgs a day and she's stil complaining. i see the value of kumon but wonder if this is a signal that this program is not suitable for her. she wil do eventually but not before a dramatic display of her unwillingness.

i've considered enopi math but i figured she may resist the portion that is similar to kumon. so end up i may face the same problem. it seems all math enrichment involves doing worksheets. m exploring to see if there's any type of enrichment that does not have this daily worksheets thingy and yet is fun and interesting in introducing math concepts to young children. many thanks!

Hi, Now my little girl in P1, i enrol her to Abacus and Kumon class, but i very confuse no know want to drop off her Abacus or not i heard my friend said kids will confuse when they do their math. I no know it’s help in math? Can anyone give me the opinion.

Maths will just get harder and harder as one progresses. Going to almost any centres will reap the same results.

What you need to do is to change her attitude towards learning. But this is easier said than done.

I share your sentiments and I guess we have all grown up in that type os situation where math can never be fun.
However, my boy is now in MathMonkey, its an american math enrichment program but their techniques are asian so its something with solid foundation after research. I used to have my kid at kumon and the same thing happen as you. But over at MathMonkey, my boy is actually WANTING TO GO to class.. I have only attended the trial class to see, but what i have seen is that they have a game-based curriculum and thus eliminating the \"boring\" worksheet part that math always require.
Instead, it is thru this game that the kids will practise their skills and I guess my boy doens't really think that he's practising, but rather they are playing a game! ( kids always love to play i suppose! )
This games are individual as well as team so it also promotes the teamwork and social skills at the same time too. as my boy is a little shy, but after just 2-3 lessons, he seems much happier after lessons.
just sharing my expeirnce, i hope it helps and maybe you could give it a try!
by the way they are located in katong area.

uh.. I know Kumon engages a lot of Kumon Completers who are teenagers, housewives & retirees as ''instructors'' at $5 an hour...

5 yrs ago, I was also considering Kumon becos my son loves numbers and he even thought of numbers before his sleep. He did K1 and K2 Books A + B within 4 days when he was in N2. So I though since he loves doing worksheets, Kumon should have enough to keep him occupied and challenged. However, after checking the website, I discovered that the instructors are paid $5/hr. With that kind of pay, I seriously don't have much confidence in the instructors. JMHO

So I taught my son myself Using printable worksheets online. When he was in P2, I did the Terry Chew's Math Olympiad book with him and we absolutely loved it!

hi i dun think its the learning attitude. spoke to the centre instructor and she concluded the method is not suitable for her. as in, some kids like worksheets but others dun. nonetheless, she encouraged me to find other methods suitable for dd. but to a great extent, i sense she has inherited her father's lazy genes so gotta work on that...
