If your girl can make good progress in her current school, imo, you should try to coax her to try to settle in and make new friends. You can encourage her to keep contact with her old friends via email, or snail mail as kids like to get mail in the letterbox.
Do consider that there may be chances that her friends in another school may have already form their own ‘best friends forever’ groups prior to your girl’s transfer to join them, and in any case, a change in their friendship may be a blow to your girl if she feels that she has ‘given’ so much to preserve the friendship just to get that in return.
        JMHO.

          hi all

What are the determining factors for a popular school to accept a mid stream student? Must they pass certain tests?

            kksl:
I just moved into HillView at West Area.

I am thinking of transfering my son currently in primary 1 to either bukit timah pri school or keming pri school for year 2009.

Any recommendation abt what is good abt each school ? Need to find out more before i transfer my son.

            thanks.
Bt Timah Primary was previously known as Bt Batok Primary. The school used to be very popular too. That is, until it shifted to the current location, which is surrounded by many landed houses. I heard the school \"produces\" about 10-15 GEP students each year.

That's quite a high rate, in my opinion.

That's quite a high rate, in my opinion.[/quote]Not sure if they still practise this. But a few years back, my colleague's children were enrolled in this school. During P1 orientation, the kids were asked to sit for some written tests. After that, they were streamed into the different classes. So from P1 onwards, there is already a best class. So they probably go by \"teach according to ability\" system.

During the school's Open House last year, I was told by the teacher that practice has been scraped. I'm rather disappointed by the move. If I understood her correctly, the kids are banded only by the end of the year.

                    ChiefKiasu:

Entry/transfer to Primary schools after P1 depends more on the child's ability to convince the school to give him/her entry than distance from the school.
For parents with kids been successfully transferred, did your kid sit for any entry test? If so, what's it like? Written paper or Interview?

 Yes, i heard the Fairfield Methodist Primary got entry test , but Nan hua Primary does not have one. They only want the results for the year before.

Does your boy want to transfer to any school ???? :celebrate:

Getting prepared in case we really do need to move due to need to get bigger apartment for the growing kids - property market going down. 😉
