All about Transferring to Other Primary Schools
-
hi all
What are the determining factors for a popular school to accept a mid stream student? Must they pass certain tests? -
kksl:
Bt Timah Primary was previously known as Bt Batok Primary. The school used to be very popular too. That is, until it shifted to the current location, which is surrounded by many landed houses. I heard the school \"produces\" about 10-15 GEP students each year.I just moved into HillView at West Area.
I am thinking of transfering my son currently in primary 1 to either bukit timah pri school or keming pri school for year 2009.
Any recommendation abt what is good abt each school ? Need to find out more before i transfer my son.
thanks. -

That's quite a high rate, in my opinion. -

During P1 orientation, the kids were asked to sit for some written tests. After that, they were streamed into the different classes. So from P1 onwards, there is already a best class. So they probably go by \"teach according to ability\" system. -

During the school's Open House last year, I was told by the teacher that practice has been scraped. I'm rather disappointed by the move. If I understood her correctly, the kids are banded only by the end of the year.

For parents with kids been successfully transferred, did your kid sit for any entry test? If so, what's it like? Written paper or Interview?
Entry/transfer to Primary schools after P1 depends more on the child's ability to convince the school to give him/her entry than distance from the school. -

Dependind on the schools you are going to apply. You may call the sch that you are interested in and check with them. I remembered the last time I did for my elder gal, out of the 5/6 schs I applied, only 1 sch needed her to sit for the entry-test, another 1 needed to go for an interview and the rest accepted her base on her past yr result.

I have 2 younger boys, 1 in Pri. 5 and another in Pr 1. Lately the P5 had been offered a place in a 'better' Primary School. Both of us (me and my son) are unable to decide yes or no. Has anyone experience transfering in Pri 5 ? Please share ideas , thanks.
You might ask, why change now if he is comfortable ? I have bad experience that my eldest who was having PSLE in the same primary school last year, the school gave very little support to the 2nd class and below pupils, it worry me very much. thanks thanks...
