Comparing Pre-school English Reading and Phonics Enrichment
-
Thanks a lot buds!
8 students to 1 teacher.. Hmm... this ctr i think to send my kids there is double the size ley...
My kids r in K1. Wondering if they came back w/o any worksheet, how do we as parent get to know what has been teaching or learning in the class? I mean whether they waste 1 hr to learn juz a little things...
Wil they forget everything after the class? Am I worry too much??
I presume the K2 students have learnt some phonics skill while they were in K1. So if mixed them in same class with K1 students, wud it affect their progress? Or wud it affect K1 students as well ? Especially if the class size is abt 15 students! Any opinion?
:?
I am wondering whether worth to send my kids to this ctr... The class wil start soon. So i got to make decision soon... Big head. -
More than 8 students somehow is already a big group for me
(from a teacher’s point of view). Unless, if what you’re referring
to is, that the Phonics class is done by rote learning or teacher
directed session with all her schoolmates in the kindergarten…
Meaning everyone looks at the board and listens to the sounds
the teacher teaches at one go.
If its a separate lesson just for Phonics in one particular centre,
and double the number of kids… hmmmm… got more than one
teacher, perhaps?
If no homework worksheet brought home, usually have one sheet
already done in the centre which is brought home for your reference
and home reinforcement. Also, a good centre wud have a checklist
of sounds covered each week so parents can be kept updated as to
what have been taught so far in the centre.
Parents’ briefing after the lesson also helps. Parents can find out from
the teacher the sound taught for the day to help with reinforcements.
To me, there may not be sufficient time to go around making sure that
all the children have understood the lesson learnt, if the class is too big
a size… I have been forced to take 10 at one go. It is a challenge esp
since all children come from different backgrounds. I try to
accommodate the 10 children (can’t be helped - boss’ decision) the best
that i can, and also rope in the parents to assist with revision. As the class
is once a week for grouped lessons, home reinforcement is imperative… -
Really tks buds for your detailed reply! Feeling warm... hehe. And appreciate your opinion.

Yes, that is a special lesson for phonics in one particular ctr. PIC said depends the number of students. If too 'many', they wil hav more than 1 teacher. So i wil see how they going to conduct the class.
Thks!

You're very welcome, dear!
It's my pleasure.
Oh, the detailed part...
I was once misunderstood.
Don't want that to happen again.
Soooo... i'll be a bit long winded (detailed).
Bear with me.

Recce a few more centres within your area if you can ok?Yes, that is a special lesson for phonics in one particular ctr. PIC said depends the number of students. If too 'many', they wil hav more than 1 teacher. So i wil see how they going to conduct the class. Thks!

It'll give you a wider range to base your assessments prior to
enrolling your kids. Its important to start on the right foot on the
right path - for the children, lest the interest might die away due to
inefficiency of centre to carry out as promised. View a class in session
wherever possible. Ask abt their methods, ask if teacher will provide
feedback at the end of the weekly lesson, any hidden cost for reading
books/series later on, any written reinforcement to the sounds learnt
each week, can you contaact the teacher shud you need clarification on
whats being taught or if you need to double confirm you're reinforcing
the right sounds (the way teacher does it), etc.. -
Tks buds! u r very kind.

I like the way u being so detailed/long winded! Cos don't wish to miss every single detail is part of a KSP criterion... kekeke... -

I am a super kiasu parent. I already exposure my baby to reading and he loves it. Take a look at his http://babysamson.weebly.com/learn.html. The key is to choose age appropriate books, but also take cue from her english level to choose a suitable one.
