From what I observe, there is no balloting required in Phase 2A (hopefully).
Yes, so far we have not seen any balloting in P2A. Don't think there will be balloting in this phase, because should there be balloting in P2A, it means the school will not have any vacancy for subsequent phases - something which is very unlikely. So, again, don't worry.3greatkids:
Thanks for the clarification! :celebrate:..... It should be \"non Singaporeans/PR\" without the dash coz with the dash, it reads non-Singaporeans or PR, thus :? since PR is already in the earlier phases, why are they included in Phase 3 too? But what qms means is as long as they are not singaporeans nor PR, then they are in Phase 3.
-
qms,
Phase 2A is split into 2A(1) and 2A(2). If the younger siblings, children of staff teaching in school and children of old girls/boys can’t get into that school, surely there will be lots of dissatisfaction. Like what you mentioned if balloting is required at Phase 2A, then can forget about Phase 2B/C. So I can sleep better with your assurance. THANK YOU. -
qms:
Dear All, thanks for the clarification. I am getting very nervous, can't the kindergarten distribute the booklet earlier? BTW, anybody know when is the date that I can do the declaration to use my parents' address?janet_lee88:

For Phase 2C registeration, do I have to consistent wait to check on the vacancy in my preferred school first then apply, or do I register first then withdraw if there is no more vacancy left. -

Actually, the booklet doesn't provide you with a lot of information that you do not already know.Optimus:
You can do either. For the latter approach, you will need to mobilise both parents. One parent will station at the school that you have already registered, while the other parent at the school that you plan to register. For Phase 2C registeration, do I have to consistent wait to check on the vacancy in my preferred school first then apply, or do I register first then withdraw if there is no more vacancy left.

Hi,
I will be registering my boy this year and have a couple of questions:
1) How is balloting done? If there are X vacancies and a surplus of Y, will they pick X or Y balloting slips (if that’s what they use)?
2) When is balloting conducted? How and when will parents be informed?
3) How does one go about giving up a place in a school secured in an earlier phase? Must the parent be down at the school during a subsequent phase to withdraw the child? Can this be done inbetween phases via telephone, for example?
Many thanks in advance! -
hi
1. Pick X
2. balloting is done after the registration of current phase is closed and before the start of the next phase. Parents affected will be informed and invited to witness the balloting.
3. to withdraw, parent must go to the registered school to do the withdrawn in person. Withdrawn must be done prior to the registration at the next school. -
jellybelly:
1. Balloting is only done when demand exceeds supply for a particular Phase. When such cases occur, the applicants for that Phase will be sorted according to their residences' distance from the school. As for picking X or Y, I'm not really sure but I think they will pick those who ARE accepted.Hi,

2. If balloting is needed, I think parents may be informed. Again, I'm not sure since I did not have to go through balloting. However, many kiasu parents will know whether balloting is required for their kids since they will be calling up the school frequently and checking MOE's website for the latest updates. Then, it is up to them whether they want to be present for the balloting.
3. Yes, you can do it in-between phases. No, you can't withdraw via phone, etc. You have to be personally present. I suspect that you may have to sign some form to confirm that you want to withdraw. -
jellybelly:
If there is surplus, why would there be balloting? Assuming there are 100 applicants and 80 vacancies. If there are 80 applicants within 1km, no balloting; those 1-2KM and more will be auto-out.

If there are 70 applicants within 1km, and 10 applicants within 1-2KM, there is NO balloting; those more than 2KM auto-out.
If there are 60 applicants within 1km and 10 applicants within 1-2KM, they will all go in. And for the 10 vacancies left, those 30 applicants who are more than 2km will be fighting for the 10 vacancies.
If there are 60 applicants within 1km, and 25 applicants within 1-2KM, applicants who are more than 2km auto out. balloting done based on 25 ballots for the 20 vacancies.
Number of ballots thrown in depends on whether singaporeans or not - if SG, then each will have 2 pieces of ballot.jellybelly:
After close of phase, once they tabulate, balloting will be announced on MOE website. not sure if tv text have.2) When is balloting conducted? How and when will parents be informed?
jellybelly:
Withdrawal only in person. Imagine if phone...someone masquerade, siao liao. I think can withdraw anytime (during/after) a phase. But each person can only apply DURING that particular phase. So if a child has a secured place in 2A, the parent cannot apply for another school under 2B without FiRST withdrawing that child.3) How does one go about giving up a place in a school secured in an earlier phase? hquek,
Your explaination of balloting is wonderful...I'm sure many parents would be able to understand how it goes.
Jellybean,
Many parents would want to be present if balloting is required. I remember checking TV text...just like checking share market then.
To withdraw at one school and register at another requires 2 parents...a very risky thing to do bcos it requires precise timing. -
Well, I suppose Phase 2C can’t do it that way right? cos’ registration will be on 2-4 Aug and the result will only be out on 13 Aug. I wonder why this takes longer than the other phases. Or will we be able to see how many applicants are within <1 km and how many under 1-2 Km?
