For sec 4 progressing into hci next year, when will we be informed to buy sch uniforms? Due to covid, i don't think we can walk freely into hci bookshop to buy correct?
Don’t think the girls are allowed to go into HCI now.
The school’s high school section aren’t allowed into the JC section either.

For school uniforms, u can try the following:
Finest
144 Upper Bukit Timah
Beauty world centre #B1-03
Tel : 6466 5697
Please do call and confirm beforehand.

They only make the school uniform.
They do not carry the PE attire.
Dd bought her PE attire from the school bookshop previously.

Btw, dd’s first email from HCI went into the junk box previously. Maybe too many recipients.
...Just to clarify one more point: once the student accepts the invitation, is there a possibility her proposal will not be accepted by any mentor-expert? Does that mean she will have to find another SIA project when that happens?

Haha..In fact, it is indeed scary. For the first draft proposal, usually it is very simple and less demanding, like 2 page include introduction, short literature review, research questions, and methodology for the research. Generally, once your dd is in this programme & attach with expert-mentor, by hook or by crook, she has to complete the programme, cannot change any SIA. Coz HSSRP is a privilege programme to be attached with a expert-mentor, the girl must persevere to work through it. The most important of all, the girl has to sign acknowledgement or commitment letter from MOE. They take very seriously in this programme. Hence, get prepared to prioritize HSSRP than the any other things that you think is equally important. Generally, the original proposal will be half-accepted by the expert-mentor, but to take note that the expert-mentor has their own ideas or plan that he/she wants the student to research on. Get prepare to follow suit what the expert-mentor expect or demand from the research paper.

Really appreciate all the insights you have provided!!

Will make sure she understands what she is walking into before she makes the final decision!
OT:

I second that! Some of the presentations were really impressive. I find it hard to believe they done by secondary school kids!

Hi, is it most of the students able to continue IP program and what’s % of students that will be on O levels prog ?

Sorry for being ignorant, I just realize that need to have msg of 4.0 to continue in the program after receive the report book on Friday.

Is msg calculated using the average of subject grade and anyone can shed some light how the calculation is done ? Food studies and art etc have no scores at all.

From sec 1 to sec 3, MSG is calculated based on core subjects ie LA, HCL, Maths, Science, Geog and History. All the rest of the subjects are graded by not calculated into MSG. A1 - MSG 1, A2 - MSG 2 and so on. Final MSG is the mean of the score for the 6 core subjects.

I am not sure how many % each year has to do SIP. I do know that 2019 sec 1 - all promoted as per DD's form teacher. But this year, no such info.

I think by Sec 3, most girls take 7-8 examinable subjects, so msg is calculated based on all 7 or 8 subjects? Eg, LA, HCL, IM1, IM2, IH, Chem, Physics, biology/lit/geog/history. There is usually one Sec 3 SIP class every year, so that’s about 20+ girls?

For hist, there wasn’t any written test done in school at all. For geo, there was only one written test on term 3 which constitutes 20%. 60% of hist and geo is on the project (group and individual) done in September. Is she didn’t do well for these 2 subjects, maybe you can check is it the group or individual work section which pulled her grades down. For these 2 subjects, hardly any notes at all. When they were preparing for the term 2 geography test on transportation, I bought a guide from popular but not much use too. Also worried if they will have problem when doing actual written test and exam in school next year.
