Thank you SG_KP1 and Figaro!

Thanks sob7. Very helpful and assuring to hear. I hope for her that she can find good friends that last her many years even after she leaves school and be good influence and support.

Has any of the parents here engaged any education consultant to help guide your girl on subject selection in JC and someone who can help to apply to overseas university?
-
I am keen to hear your experience of engaging with education counsellors? and do you think it is worth to invest at Sec 3 level to shape up childs portfolio for university application?

Wanna consult parents who have girls who had graduated from RGS.
From year 3 onwards, how do you support their studies? Do they need to go for many tuitions eg chemistry math higher MT? Is it sufficient if they just read and understand what school has prepared for them for exams?
How can they improve their I&A results ? -

Just sharing my experience: mine doesn’t go for Chem and math tuition except HMT (which she only started like 3 weeks before EYA
). And she is doing reasonably ok in these subjects (3.6-4.0). So I think it is possible to do comfortably well without tuition in RGS. That said, my girl did study with her friends (on zoom these days due to Covid-19), and make notes together (shared on Google Drive). So i guess it is not just simply read and understand what the school teacher taught in class? For math, the teacher did give past year papers and problem sets for them to practise. Being diligent helps, especially for math. The girls can also approach the teachers for consultation too. For I&A, Sec 1 and 2 is a breeze, but Sec 3 got harder (but still, the median is 3.6, so I think it is manageable). Attentive listening in class, consultations with teachers, and collaborative study sessions with friends would help

Hi any parents can share if there is still house practice for the year 2? Is it usually on Wednesdays just like for the year 1s? But for year 2s, they are supposed to have research studies time every Wednesday afternoon right?
Thanks! -

Thanks Mummy Ng. My girl could manage without a tutor so far. Her GPA is around 3.6. (I&A around 3.2). I heard from her that most of her friends who have done well for their results still go to enrichment classes after school. Thus I am wondering if I should be sourcing for tutor for her as well especially when work get tougher in year 3 and 4.New2019mama\" post_id=\"2001005\" time=\"1604238661\" user_id=\"174260:

DD1 just graduated. She has HMT tuition since Sec2 as she is struggling with it (chinese has always been her weakest subject). No other tuitions. The top girl in her class has perfect GPA of 4.0 in all 10 subjects, no tuition at all. So is it possible to do well in rgs without tuition? Yes. But one needs good discipline, motivation and hard work. Yes, she said the girl worked very very hard.

We can’t help DD with their studies. They are on their own. DD1 will seek help from teachers or friends if she is in doubt and we think she is doing fine. DD2 can’t be bothered, not even asking the sister for help.

I&A is very subjective, like Lit. It’s not easy to score but I won’t be too concerned with their I&A results especially if your DD has another strong humanities subject to be used in her overall GPA calculation.
