when PH accepted PV, i believe all PV are >2km, so as to ensure fairness to this gp when it comes to registering. But along the way for some reasons some PV chose to shift near to the school, (<1km), which made them have an upper hand in the event if balloting needs to be conducted in 2B. In any case that sounds like a good calculated move, as if they are not successful in 2B, they still can go for 2c ballotin, hence have 2 bites of the pie.

For this gp of PV, I question their conscience with respect to the upper hand that they have created for themselves in phase 2B, as their proximity advantage earned them a almost \"riskless\" place in 2B as compared to other PV who do not shift near to PH upon accepted as PV. These PV need to be reminded that if they were to stay <1km and have applied to be a PV in the 1st place, they would have been turned down..

i hardly see all these as divine intervention as one loudly proclaimed in this thread, more likely is hand of man disgusied to be believed to be \"hand of god\"

Nevertheless, God is fair, you get away this time, you will have to pay back big next time

am going to bring this \"loophole\" to the relevant authority's notice to see if anything can be done to rectify in the spirit of fairness to all participants.
that's a very bitter first post...there is nothing wrong with moving within 1km 2 secure a higher chance for your kids.

        hi landmark,
I'm sorry to see a lot of hurt in your post. It's not true that PV are staying more than 2km away when they get selected. In fact, was told by sch admin that they prefer PV not to be far away. Perhaps you can validate this point yourself and see if your pt of view still holds.

          landmark:
I am right saying that the cohort of PV is all >2km, as they dont want unequal advantage among the PV when it comes to balloting. Of the PV that i know, ALL of them stay >2km at the point of selection. In the briefing the principal also \"advised\" PV not to resort to such tactic but pray more ( thats the real divine intervention).

All i can say is that such tactic has resulted in an uneven playing field among the PV. I have decided to pursue this matter further. For the PV who got in by using this tactic, congrats and hope you can sleep well
Based on your post, residents who are less than 1km should not be allowed to PV, so as to be fair to PV who are staying more than 2km away? Is there any flaw in this argument?

Please double confirm this pt that PV must all be > 2km when selected. And by that I mean please contact the sch admin to confirm this pt. Not based on who you know from your PV experience. Do let us know the outcome.

That's a sweeping statement. PH selects PVs thoroughly. I don't think proximity is the only criteria. My friend residing out of 2km applied to be PV last year for this year's P1 registration but was rejected. We were rejected at first a couple of years back too but after appealing and praying, the P accepted us after explaining to us that we could still be turned away during balloting. A few PVs I know were accepted after phase 2B registration because they were staying within 2km proximity. They did not move house. For us, we had to go thru the nerve-breaking >2km balloting cos my dd's name was called almost last. It is a test of faith.

              HI Landmark,

I sense a lot of bitterness in your first post here.
Pei Hwa principal chooses PVs based on what they can offer to the school, their time schedule and also proximity to the school. The school needs PVs on adhoc basis for some ‘jobs’…as such it would be best if PVs stay nearby.

Even if PVs (those staying more than 2km) were selected and move closer to the school, it is for the reason of children spending less time travelling. Of course some parents move in the hope that they have better chance of getting into the school. However, not all PVs can afford to move house…and even if they have the intention to move nearer, there are not many units available nearby either.

Every parent wants the best for their kid(s)…anything they do that is within MOE rules is fair game. No need to be bitter or curse other forumers if they play the game better than you.

                  Hi landmark,

Judging from your posts, I know you are very upset.
When are you due to register your child for P1 ? This year or next ?
Not everyone who apply to be PV succeed to be one.
All parents want the best for their children, same goes for yourself too. I hope your child gets into Pei Hwa or any school of your choice.

Principals select PVs based on certain criteria, proximity factor included…and ultimately we do not know why they choose xx PV over another person.

Take it easy and enjoy your weekend.

                    Hi Landmark,

I read your posts and they are all filled with bitterness.
I used to be a PV too and I’ve stayed here for more than 10 years (within 1km of the school)…selected at the last minute having being rejected earlier.

Your English is not weak, in fact, it’s very good. I do understand. Some parents who are selected to be PVs stay more than 2km away. Ok, some have money and opportunity to move nearer to the school in order to be within 1km. Given a chance, who wouldn’t want to stay nearer ?

                      Hi Landmark

From your profile, you have 2 kids, one Girl born in 2004 and one boy born in 2006. and staying in bukit timah. So you applied for PH and did not get selected??

                      Regards

You called them better players by exploitng the loopholes? They could be seen as a cheater or maniuplator if you see it from another point of view.

At least I play this game by following the rules that are implicitly understood by most players. I dont see how getting this level to get into the system can be seen as good playing skills. perhaps you might want to elaborate and we can have a discussion on this
it's called survival of the fittest...it is not a loophole. A loophole is a way around for a rule that people exploit. The rules are clearly spelt out for sub-phases.

As a PV, didn;t the principal spell it out clearly that PVs were not assured of a place even if they successfully completed their tour?

Arguably, it may have been an implicit understanding and perhaps only by you but all these PVs have played by the rules. We all understand your frustration but there is no need to point one finger at others when actually four digits are pointing back at you.

The other PVs did not cheat or manipulate - they did not pay bribes or make threats. They played the game to the best of the ability and in the spirit of kiasuism beat you at it, fair and square. Determine whether you could have done a better job for your kid and don't repeat the same mistake for your next kid.
