DH wants DD to become a doc
and DS to become a business man. But DS has decided he wants to be a taxi driver since he likes driving. He will drive a jaguar taxi

I have been very tactfully showing him all the other exciting options - like be a pilot, may be own a whole fleet of cars (aka Comfort)., a formula 1 driver.... he gets fascinated for a while but he reverts back saying \"but I want to be a taxi driver\" :stupid: :stupid: :stupid: -

Why so many of you all want your kids to be doctors? Do you know that doctors' pay is not as good as you think, at least they are not one of the top earning profession. Then have to study so hard. Might as well go into the financial sector, that's where you can make big bucks. Moreover if become GP, then so competitive. It is so hard to make a good living, given the amount of time spent studying.
Aiyah carebear, maybe it's not about money... Think how useful it is if there's a geriatric specialist at home when you are old and doddering about :lol: That's what DH always said about his own family - they have quite a few specialists around so very convenient when someone needs attention for some part of the body!
Ok, seriously, not all docs do it for the money. I actually agree with you that the pay is not that great, unless you're one of the very well-known specialists and can charge an arm and a leg just for consultation. But then all the docs I know make at least a five-figure salary a month. That's not too shabby at all for most people, isn't it? I definitely wouldn't mind it if my kids make that kind of money!
Anyway, DH certainly didn't go into his profession with starry visions of how much money he can make. It may sound trite but he genuinely wanted to work with and help people, and as a surgeon, till today he still gets enormous satisfaction from saving a life.
I think if one wants to have a better 'return' from all those of years of studying, consider law.
Endure a few years of swotting through law school and a few more years of being scolded by your boss, clients and judges.... eventually your pay will be very decent hahahaha.
If you are from a well to do family, then go ahead and pursue your dream by being a doctor. However if you need to struggle to pay for your tuiton fees, you will be in for a disappointment!
Nowadays being a doctor with your own practice is tough. You need to have good business acumen too. -

They can't survive in this world by solely being happy. One day when we are gone, they have to survive on their own and life is more than just being happy.
I wish i have the strength to do so.
Actually , everyone should do what they love. Really love. Then its not work - its happiness. If my children can find that profession that they are passionate about , then they are very lucky. Bcos you can do it day in and out , and grow with it .
The ultimate job is that we would do even if we are not paid for it. We need to keep searching till we find it....

I sincerely hope not all aspiring doctors go into med school thinking of how much they will earn in future. Hopefully all those who make it to med school have hearts too, as well as brains. Imagine meeting a GP/paediatrician/gynaecologist/cardiologist/neurologist who is thinking solely of how much he/she can charge you to make up for all those years of swotting... -

If my specialist is only treating me and for him if i am just a money generating unit, sorry even if the doc is exceptionally talented i would not be comfortable ...
Sorry dollar sense is necessary, but doubt it can give u that satisfaction as doing what u r capable...
If money is the goal then it is fine , and there are quite a few professions that can get u more money with out even a good education.... -

My DS1 is rather soft-hearted and very easy with people. I don't know what he want to be yet, but he definately can't be a businessman!
DD2 said she wants to be a cleaner because she likes to clean/wipe tables... :!: :!:
DS3 too young to know. He likes to throw balls, jumping and running around, and recently he is into shuttle run, so maybe he could become Singapore first Olympic Games Gold Medalist??
