Jugglermum:
What if I rent a place in my name within 1 km of the school, use that address to apply, but do not actually live there. However, I leave it vacant and do not sub-let to anyone. Would this be breaking any laws?

i think as long as that rental address is in your i/c, it is legal.
I also could not tell from the various posts if it's ok that my husband and I have different addresses on our ICs.
wow. good question.
I also could not tell if there's a minimum time that I have to have the new address on my IC for enrolment, and any set # of years after that I have to maintain this address.

Thanks for any info or advice!
i think there is no moe minimum time frame.

but the school might try to impose a minimum time frame and compel parents to sign it if they want to register in the school. this is the iffy area. it all depends on whether other parents complain about the rental tactic, whether the school would act to kick your kid out because you didn't stay the minimum period, and whether you are prepared to take legal action against the school for imposing the minimum period and making the parents sign that undertaking under duress (i hear some schools whip out that undertaking right at the point of registration and give parents a take it or leave it ultimatum).

Hi I am a new member, in need of help for advice for Primary School registration for this June.

I am thinking of putting my daughter in a popular school and will be under Phase 2B for registration. We are considering to move to within 2km of the school to increase the chance of getting into the school.

My question is once we move and change the address but (touch wood) cannot get to this school during phase 2B, we are wondering if we can move again and change the address so that we can register her for another school in phase 2C for within 1km. Is that possible to be done?

        Thanks for your advice!

Here I go again  ....

Why don't you try your tactic and let us know if it works? Letting us know is ok, so long MOE or 'Phase 2B's unsuccessful applicants who genuinely live within 2km of Popular School A' or 'Phase 2C's unsuccessful applicants who genuinely live within 1km (or even 1-2km) of Backup School B' don't find out and make noise if you intend to 'move house' on paper only.

Dear cinderella, if you are able to do what you propose within the few days between Phase 2B and Phase 2C, and actually stay in the final address as you registered for Phase 2C, there is really nothing wrong with what you say. One scenario could be that you have bought another property already, and are deciding between the 2 properties where you want to stay for your kid's education.

As pointed out by jedamum, try not to stretch the definition of \"changing addresses\" beyond what is legally acceptable, and you'll be fine.

              Hi Chief Kiasu,

Thanks for the advice! The reason why I asked about the address matter is because I read somewhere that any change of address is to be done by 30 June. Is that more for purchase of properties that have yet to be TOP?

I have another question. I also have the option of registering my child during Phase 2A for a very popular school (A), though it is a bit farther than the schools I have in mind for phase 2B and 2C.

In the event that I register in phase 2A for school A and then deregister my child from this school for another school in Phase 2B this time round and decide a few years later to put my second child up for Phase 2A for the school A, would/could school A reject my application for Phase 2A then?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

That will be completely dependent on whether school A thinks if having your child is an asset or liability to the school at the point of request. Anything anyone can say at this point on this issue will be a matter of pure conjecture.

                        no problem
TOP means Temporary Occupation Permit means that technically you can already shift in.
if i remember correctly, you have to shift into the address within 2 yrs of application that's why there shouldn't be any issue.
