My DD said why can't the MOE get the passage from other source like overseas Newspaper instead of local newspaper? :?
Their standard of English may be different.
Also, the way certain things are described/phrased is different from place to place, depending on their customs and culture.

We say cupboard, others say wardrobe.
We say cup, others say mug.

      Similarly for Chinese. 🙂

As long as the source is a 'free resource' in which everyone has access to if they choose to find it to read or use, I think it's fair and square.

Same thing happened with the Chinese paper last year. One of the compre passages appeared in a school’s prelim exam and also at a tution centre’s worksheet.

No big deal. Some parents just love to complain. Last yr, complain Math paper too difficult. This yr, complain Math paper too easy!

Totally agree that if it's a newspaper article, what's wrong if pupils have seen the passage? My dd, who did psle this yr, has not seen it but we're perfectly fine with this. Makes no difference to us.
But you see, we kids think differently from adults. And also, if Maths is hard, the pro ones will cheer (so T-score will pull them up). If Maths is easy, the not so pro ones will cheer. So either way some would complain while others will cheer. 😄

WHY can't MOE get someone to write a FRESH PASSAGE instead? All passages in the exam paper should be original. If they're not confident about the local's English, then get some 'ang moh' to write.

Regardless of where Elsa goes, she has her handphone with her. (P.S. I can't remember the exact question)

The tricky part is the word 'where', which is changed from 'wherever'.

Elsa has her handphone with her no matter where she goes to.

sorry. You are wrong cos u cant add in words like \"no matter\" if its not mentioned in the sentence. Its correct but they dun give u marks for just being grammatically correct.

The government is encouraging people to be original and creative but MOE itself is displaying blatant laziness and non-creativeness.

                      PSLE PAPER DRAWS GROUSES

                      :? Whaddaya think Guys?

The original source is a newspaper article which is read by public. It's not a secret document which only SEAB had access to.
If the teachers had the 'luck' or 'foresight' to use the same article to develop their teaching materials, then it is really coincidence.

As long as none of the teachers/tutors in those schools/centres are part of the team that writes up the PSLE paper, I think there isn't any 'unfairness' to grumble about.

Teachers have always encouraged students to read newspapers, naturally, we will also take articles from newspapers. Especially if the difficulty level is just right for their level.

Every year, there are bound to be parents who complain about such 'coincidences'. How?
As I mentioned last year, if you don't want your child to lose out, then make them read and read and read. And develop your own materials in hope that you will be that lucky one with the 'coincidence'.

when i read from the papers that this year PSLE cloze passage (abt bees) was taken from articles of newsapapers,
i remembered that i had cut out this aticle for my gal when she was in P5
for her to practise her cloze, (and also the teacher would require them to do newspapers cutting)
so i went to dig thru her old stuff, true enuff that was THE ARTICLE 😉
                      wow.....so co-incidence....
gal said, \"why didn't it appear for PSLE 2009?\".....haha

ya lorr...why can't SEAB come out with a fresh passage
they shd have all the time, resources and talents........why took the short cut ( taken fr newsapapers) 😉

How did they managed the issue last year?
They will probably use the same method to resolve it.

Seriously, MOE has always talked about having ORIGINAL questions for PSLE. Guess what happen this and last year ... speaks for itself.
