that's what i thought too.

I tot total gepers is only about 500 per year? If so, assuming 50% of them are boys =250. 170 is ALOT!
whether is a lot or little is relative and is subjective to one's persuasion

        no one is comparing

I expected a much bigger cohort in iSpark. the impression given by the school in the dialogue session is that it is very big, at least equal in size to the other 3 consortium

So include HCI ispark 81, total 251. The other about 100 are probably distributed out to NUSH, DHS, SJI, CHS or other non GEP secondary schools, and may be SST.

Why \"suffer?\" Ispark or RI GEP classes are definitely doing more challenging stuff and in the end students may not do well on papers and duno if that is disadvantage of anything/award along the way .

During the DSA briefing session, RI principal has indicated that yearly, RI accepts between 150 - 180 geppers whilst the rest are made up of mainstreamers. 50% of geppers cohort of boys is already quite substantial, and the other slightly > 250 vacancies for mainstreamers will account for about < 1% of top mainstreamers taking PSLE. That makes the % sounds about right.

Geppers are chosen at a young tender age of P3, and by P6, the ability of some other kids blossom. Choosing the top 0.5-1% of the mainstreamers cohort allows for RI to recruit this group of high performers as well.

May I know what is your son’s score for PSLE. I know kids in maintream who score above 265 are invited into ispark and you are allow to reject the invitation. My 2 friends’ ds rejected the ispark invitation.
26++ but he got in the school via DSA. When did your friends receive the invitation? Thru phone, email or letter? How long were they given to consider?

Fm the recent post on the EMB:

                  Sec 1
                  ISpark : 81 (3 classes, 27 ea)
Wonder among the 81 how many took up GEP since P4?

Why not? I don't see being in iSpark or RI GEP as 'suffering'. The kids who are in these classes are probably higher ability ones and would thrive at being challenged to reach their potential. I dare say some of the brighter students find Sec 1 rather easy and unchallenging because they're covering material they've already learnt in primary school. This is assuming that there is differentiated learning in these classes compared to the other classes.

They got in thru DSA too. My friends told me they rejected the offers and I did not ask for further details.

:? How did RI get into HCI thread??

Anyway, my personal concern is DS moving forward...how well he will adapt to the school, new classmates, new syllabus, programs, etc...how far he will continues to communicate openly to me.

品学兼优is the value I am brought up with. Thus values is important or maybe, as important to academic results.

Any 'senior' here with experience to share on how their son changed after entering HCI and how / what they are doing to keep up with the communication with their DS?
