Hahaha yes iam embarrassed and all a sudden i was wondering did my DS sufferred that in sch when he first came to spore. He told me not, he said it is very wrong to laugh at people be it whether you know something or not, he told me isnt that e things he shd learn when i sent him to sch. Thanks very much of you for your encouragement. And do you know, now i know who is Amy Chua and told my DS and DH they shd know in case they will be teased by others? Out of curosity, must all singaporean known who she is? Or else they will become a joke to others?

Yes, she is a very kind person. When some of them are laughing at me, she is there for me. Anyway, do not rake it up again. My DS is very lucky to be the same sch as hs son. What i admire her is that the way she stands up for NUS High, not because she wanted to brag, but she believed in ths sch.

By PSLE in 3 years time, your DD (trust the kids adjustments) may have made significant improvement in both her languages, so not to worry till then.

Well if your DD loves Maths /Science and seriously considering pursueing these areas, NUSH is definitely the best place to enable her to stretch and nurture her love for Physics, Chemistry, Biology(Life science) and Maths.

Future researchers and scientists are the main products of this high school. But if future Lawyers and Economist/Artist/Architect can also be nurtured out of Math/Science school, then it is great. :celebrate:

Beside Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci, a great scientist, inventor and artist is a named icon in the school (the Da Vinci programme)

Glad you are back. Don't feel bad. I can't see how bad (in your language or what ??) to be shun or \"punished\" by anyone here. So don't be cowered or so get yourself \"bully\" by anyone here. Just curious, and pardon my ignorance, does one have to be really good in BOTH Math and Science to get into NUS high, or one can be extremely outstanding in one (say Science) and not in the other (Math)?

I dont blame you for misunderstand when you thought people called you Tigermum, esp when your child is born in e year of Tiger and to someone who doesnt know who is Amy Chua! What i dont understand is Amy Chua is a person who is very strict to her children, why did 'that person' in that thread wanted to quote MumSAH something about that? Did she show people she is very strict to her DS?? Or that person is trying to ....Dont laugh at me if i made a mistake because i dont understand what 'that person' is trying to say either? Haha that the problem when your Eng is weak..i might be wrong...

By the way, MumSAH, i dont know who is Amy Chua either until i asked my hubby, i too curious, must we know her? Iam too glad that there is people like matadorepy and Innovate who always there to lead rather to tease!

If you are good in maths, logically you should be ok in Science.

I believe NUSHS testing in both Maths and Science is not so much the hard facts (knowledge) which one can read up or find out in data /info bank somewhere eg Internet but rather the way the kid analyse , infer and extrapolate data and information. It is the scientific /inquiry mind they are looking for not one well endowed with encyclopedia in the head.

What it means is that a hard working kid may scored perfect marks in both Maths and Science may not get a place as compared to a less hardworking one that consistently attained only 85 and 80 marks.

Like the GEP test, the difference lies in the thinking kid and not the remembering/ well-drilled kid.

I think that parent brought up tiger-mum because it happens to be a hot topic now (it keeps appearing in the newspapers recently and in this forum there is also a thread discussing it) and maybe she felt that it was apt as some parents could relate to it better. That parent is very helpful too, I have seen her giving very good advice in this forum. In fact, I think most parents here are rather helpful.

I myself can be quite ignorant too .. when someone laughed at my ignorance I would laugh with them together Really, don't read too much into what others said. Most mothers are so busy with their kids and household affairs, so it is expected that some do not keep abreast of current affairs .. I think it is okay not to know about Amy Chua or Tiger mum. And MumSAH - the way you said about rat-mum, snake-mum is quite funny and original too, so I was amused by the words but definitely not laughing at you or anything. I have gone through many years of English education here, but I am still checking the dictionary frequently, I googled a lot on English words which are unfamiliar to me, I am not ashamed of it as I learn a lot this way.

Yes my DS. It has been his and our dream school and only school that he wanted to go in since 3years ago. But I heard from my friends that it is very difficult. This year 2000 applying and only like less than 150 go in and psle they only take less than 14? And their psle cut off point is 264. Pls correct me if I am wrong. So hoped my DS has a chance. His math and science since pr 3 is A*. I think by DSA is very difficult for him as his knowledge out of the text is not so strong but his studies is all the while top 5 in the whole school.
So, can anyone please advise me will my DS suffer over there if he is acceped by PSLE instead of DSA? Will he be able to understand or cope over in NUS High? Again, this batch is 264, this year will be higher, right?
