Having a DD who completed her PSLE last year, now I realise why the fuss over this first national exam taken by school going kids.

My DD, together with her 2 cousins, took their PSLE last year and the 3 of them got very different results. DD and another cousin, who were ranked higher in terms of PSLE t-score, were given their first choice secondary schools which are quite popular in Singapore. The remaining cousin, though still qualified for Express stream, was posted her 4th choice school. On Reporting Day (23 Dec 2010), when this cousin went her new class in the secondary school, she realised that she's the only Chinese student in her class. Her parents took a look at the school environment and noticed that the school is plagued with student discipline issues. The parents also received a lot of negative feedback about the students from this school from friends and neighbours (smoking in the park while still in school uniform, fighting and rowdiness in shopping malls, food courts). After much thought, the parents decided to withdraw their DD from the school.

In essence, P6 kids who are ranked higher for the PSLE t-score will have more secondary school choices. Generally, secondary schools with better school environment are very popular and have higher cut-off points. It also translates to that if your child qualifies for such schools, he/she will have a more conducive environment for learning and lesser chance of discipline problems during the teenage years. For the parents, this means lesser headaches (NOT no headache)!

so for those kids whose results are not so good, their parents chose to let them go into a good sec school’s normal stream then to express stream of schools’ with disciplinary problems…

that’s what happen to my niece and she is very happy in the ‘much better’ school studying in the normal stream…

YAH!!! Total agree. That's why I kept reminding my son.....pls work hard and get a better T-score (dun just aim for the T-score of the school you want).....do BETTER than that and be the one who choose instead of having to try and knock at the doors :stupid: There is only one chance....dun regret.

Personally I believe strongly on the school environment, remember the Chinese Saying about \"Mixing with the right people\"?? I would dread the day if I have the school/teacher calling me up about smoking, bad behaviour etc etc. I'm not someone who can accommodate such things :x

at the final analysis, after having put all my children through primary school, a good set of PSLE results help to secure a place in a good JC without the headache / heartache of nail biting GCE O levels

            that's y PSLE is impt 😉
and it generates much interest from PSLE Results Day compared to \"O\" or even \"A\" levels.

I used to be a "bo-chap" mum until I joined KSP 4 months ago.

After reading several threads in KSP, I am now getting very paranoid about PSLE. Is this good or bad?

  cwc, having 4000 posts is not being paranoid.. that's being LUO LI LUO SUO... 😉 😉 No, my husband doesn't say anything coz he's used to having me sitting by the notebook, and with the iphone, it makes it so easy to access KSP even when you are out. 😉 😉

Seriously, I'm getting paranoid and \"kan cheong\" after reading the threads even though my child is not taking PSLE so soon.
