Like what Krtcmp has mentioned, many with scores in the range of 250s excel later in their sec schools. It all depends on many factors chief being opportunities, attitude, growth and development of an individual student..
There are also quite a number of students with 230+ who become top students during O-levels, as seen among the line-up of schools like Catholic High & CHIJ St Nicholas'.

          Only $90 for the camp ? Thought it's 150 ?

          For my DD last year it was $50 + $90 = $140.

Anyone has any experience or know more about the DSA for Orchid Park Sec Sch? Need info and feedback. Not those basic info about DSA but rather what and how the applicants will be tested and how do you prepare your portfolio for Visual Arts for OPSS. TIA.

if not mistaken they normally have more than a thousand applicants

The worst part is that RI doesn't shortlist from your application, like some schools, eg. DHS. So waste time for some students. And the teachers/instructors' time for being at the trials/auditions.

oh is it...so all who submit application will go thru test and interviews? ....For HCI, they shortlist applicants for interview and test.
Yes, they bother to have every single applicant go thru the audition/tests/interviews, altho' in reality, if you look at the namelist, they would have ranked the applicants already. They will test/interview the one with their own highest ranking first.

:yikes: The application fee is $50 each right?

I think most schools charge $50. Good $$ making opportunity hor???

the tests like GAT cost money to run

last time they used CSI to run the GAT and students pay directly to CSI and the result was shared with the DSA schools the students applied too.

these days the DSA schools try to differentiate themselves from one another by running their own GAT test or its equivalent
Now RI runs their very own GAT ... so the money goes into their OWN pockets. Oh well. And HCI also runs their own tests, I guess. And of course NUSH runs their own tests since it's very different from everyone else's.

At least for other schools, it is still run by external agency.
                http://www.gat.sg/
I think CSI re-organised and now is called Principals Academy. DHS, NYGH, VS, CDGS are using this programme. Can also apply on your own to take GAT under Open registration, if not through any school. NYGH only recently switched to GAT. Previously, they did their own tests for each subject (like mini-psle, huh?).

And the other schools like NJC, SST, ACSI, MGS, (not sure if there are others) are using HAST from Australia.

So all these schools don't seem to charge anything for DSA, except for the S$50 to pay for the test.

Is the ranked namelist confidential or open to the applicants to see?

It's open, but you can only see the list when you go for the trials/audition/interviews yourself. They will paste the list on some wall, eg. at canteen, so you know your \"order of appearance\". But in reality, the \"order\" is a \"ranking\" already, although, it's not made known, lah. If you know the \"who-is-who\" on the namelist, you can figure that out already. eg. out of 10 applicants on the list, the one 1st in the order of appearance would be a competition awardee, and the rest don't have even though they have very high qualifications... and in the end, that person would be the only one given a DSA offer. So well, RI might as well not ask everyone to come since, in their mind, they know who they already want, right?

My DS will be going to RI for an interview on 18 June. We will look out for this list to see his 'ranking'.

If yours under GEP, then maybe not applicable. 😄
