I have gone through primary sch days with teachers who abused their power in physically punishment, hence I don't believe that it worked and firmly believe that such punishment would do more harm than good. Kids can be punished in many forms including receiving 'pink slips' (practised in NYPS) and other disciplinary actions. What is most important is the lesson learnt at the end of the day which may not necessarily be taught by inflicting pain!

It's certainly parents' duty to guide their children in terms of moral values, showing respect, humble, etc etc and this should start when they were toddlers.

On abusive teachers, I had personal experience with such teachers too. Kanna bruises on arms & waist. Yet I was too young & helpless to stand up to such unreasonable treatment

Heard of female chinese swimming coach of a primary school who has been punishing kids physically :spank: such as hitting with swim board or hitting with whistle etc., but these actions seem to be condoned by the parents :shock: .

I feel that sometimes corporal punishment is necessary. The old saying \"Spare the rod, spoil the child\" is still applicable. Sadly, many parents are overly indulgent and many young children become uncontrollable brats. In the end, some parents have to send this type of children away to Boys'/Girls' Homes. The unfortunate ones had to send their dead teens into the other world due to street fights/staring incidents.

This \"PE teacher vs problem child\" incident should serve to wake up those indulgent parents.

For those parents who do not hv the experience of being at the breaking point, it would be very hard to understand why the reaction of the PE teacher and very easy to fault the PE teacher.

Is pulling the kid's hair & slapping the kid corporal punishment???? I don't think so!
This is plain hooligan behaviour which should NOT be condoned, indulgent parent or not!

This is different from a slap on the wrist or a cane on the buttocks (corporal punishment) for more serious offence by the school authority.

Sure - i agree with \"spare the rod, spoil the child\" but that rod should really (and ideally) be administered by the parents... and on case-by-case basis by the Principal (upon consultation with the Parents for more serious offence) but definitely not pulling of hair & slapping across the face - this is just unacceptable!

If we condone such a hooligan behaviour, can u imagine what type of society we'll be in when these kids become adults?

I shudder at that very thought!

Agreed this teacher's behavior is more that corporate punishment. More of abusing! No police case? If an employer does that to the maid, employer will be charge to court, we are talking about a 8yr old boy here! :mad:

You have a point here. If employer does that to a maid, sure get charged in court!
How can we allow the teacher who has clearly abused a child walk away scot-free?
She should be charged in court as well... at least it will serve as a timely reminder for teachers not to abuse children!!!

PS: (I know it is not easy to handle kids, that's why teachers can choose to shout at kids or make them stand in a corner or even bar them from attending lessons (of course parents must be informed of any such move - whatever method is fine with me, so long as there is no hooligan behaviouor, please )
