-
Maybe can burn the incense paper only at a certain places, like temples…If there have enough space.

Hi LOLMum, 3Boys,LOLMum:
believe the original post is more of a health concern and not something else.
Yah agreed, I don't think he meant harm, certainly the concern was health related.
didn't mean it otherwise.
It was more towards being accomodative despite personal dislike(s).
For example, if the govt were to ban something due to health reasons, cigarettes and hard liquor would be in the top list ?
don't see that ever happening though. -

I believe burning incense papers "in" HDB is already banned? that applies to common corridors etc… althou not strictly enforced…
TC provide bins that are "outside" of HDBs… althou in close vicinity… -

To me, I feel that is not much difference to burn outside of hdbs downstairs or burn at the corridors.I believe burning incense papers \"in\" HDB is already banned? that applies to common corridors etc.. althou not strictly enforced..

Is like smoking inside bus stop or outside bus stop...smoke still come to you where the wind blows. -
I shared a corridor with 3 other Chinese nbrs who burned the incense twice a month, not to mention the daily smokey joss sticks and etc. At times, I am worried that my 2 young children may accidentally touched the burner. However, I learn to accommodate their beliefs and educate my kids to be careful instead. Now, they are pretty used to these burnings and learn a little more abt religions harmony.
Never expect the environment to change to suit ur kids, instead educate ur kids on preventive measure to keep themselves safe. -

But the belief to burn incense paper if for wondering spirits tat roam during lunar 7th mth and according to the belief these spirit cannot go temple which is the holy place. So burning incense paper in temple during the 7th mth would defeat the purpose. -

Although I do not observe the 7th Month, and the burning of joss paper does inconvenience my family with smoke and ash, I believe there is a need for 'common space' in terms of observance of faiths and beliefs, so I voted that we should not ban it. It is for a limited time every year after all.
seems to every few months also got to burn joss paper... not only during 7th month.
burning of joss stick.. should not have much smoke.. as it is within the house..
As for burning of those incense paper.. most families.. will have those little bins.. and with cover.. to cover after the buring so that the smoke and the ash.. does not fly around.. -
Actually I met the cleaner today and really pity her that she got to clear up the mess on the remnants of these burnings/ food on the floor with extra overtime and efforts. Not to mention, the birds and pests added to the mess. However, she has no complaint and took it easy.
