For the composition in gr 5 theory, there is a formula to follow.

In gr 6-8 theory, the weightage is 20 mks but can use the formula learned in gr 5.

Some music sch do introduce music composition in music appreciation classes like MYC and Yamaha special junior advance class.

This yamaha course focus on composing. There will be competiton every now and then and winners will have to opportunity to perform or compete overseas.

        EN:
Is there a music school that specialise in music composition? My child is interested in learning how to compose a song using piano. Or does a child need to compose a song as they move on to higher grade? At which grade is composition expected?

Watched the video on the other thread. PM you.

[/quote]pianojazzy, he doesn't have the pre-requisite criteria to join YJAC as he does not attend the 4/JXC. All he has is the 4 months of learning in group piano class.

Read through MYC. I see some comments which makes me presumed, it is not suitable for ds.

snowz, thanks for watching the video & the pm. He happily creates using his hearing. I do have more question to ask. Will pm you later in the week when things are less hectic.

            Hi EN,
Did you call up Yamaha to check? One pre-requisite I know is that he must be at least 6 years old. If he is very good in his hearing, I don't see why they would not accept if he does well at the audition.

He is attending Yamaha Piano School for Children. Beside composing, there are other aspects that I would like to touch on with the teacher. My only problem is that the teacher comes to class just in time to teach and by the end of the lesson, she has overrun by 2-3 minutes and she will be teaching another class. I wonder how can I spend 5 minutes with her without appearing inconsiderate.

                Hi En,

You can leave a message with the reception requesting the teacher to call you. That’s what I did when I was contemplating to change my son’s JMC class previously.

                    Hi Pianojazzy

My 5yrs old boy has been learning piano for about 8mths but he is not able to remember the notes and fundamental is very weak. Furthermore, its seem like he has started to lose his interest and we have to force him to practice at home. We have to stop the class as we are not able to see the progress and are not sure what is the cause of him losing interest. Is there any way we can motivate him? Is there any good teacher to recommend?

                      Hi Mickey,

The most important thing to do now is to strengthen his foundation. He may be despaired that he cannot read notes properly and has to spend a lot of time figuring out the notes to practise the piece properly.

Is he in a group lesson or 1-1?

Yes, he is having 1-1. The problem is that I also don't know much about piano. How can I strengthen his foundation so tot of switching school.
