Kumon - Discussion

Do they sell such graded worksheets to the public (i.e. to non Kumon students)?
I know that Kumon sells "Kumon Workbooks" in most book stores, but I think they are different. -
I have seen Kumon workbooks not sure if it is the same. But u can attend their observation sessions where u can sit in. And kids given test to determine which level they belong to and they can enter that level directly instead of starting from Level 7A to travel up based on individual kids skills.

I was hoping to buy the graded materials for home use without signing up for Kumon due to my limited budget for enrichment courses.
But it’s fine if the materials are not available to non-Kumon students. I can use other alternative material.
Thanks for your info! -

Need some advise here from parents who’s kids are with Kumon.
I’ve just enrolled my child to Kumon this week. I realised that the homeworks that my child took back, are all the same sets, eg, 2 sets of 3A21A and 3 sets of 3A30A for example. Is this the norm? I know they do repeat worksheets but by having 3 sets of the same worksheets on the same week, arn’t my child doing the exact same questions everyday? I feel its such a waste of time if that’s the case. Or did they gave the same worksheets out by mistake?
Please enlighten me. Many thanks! -
My kids have also gotten repeats. From what I know about Kumon, they not only have to complete it on time, but complete it accurately. In your case, since you have just enrolled your child this week, maybe they are testing your child. If they find the child can do fast and correct, maybe they will go faster. Then again, I guess things differ in each center.

Many thanks for your reply

Initially, I thought maybe my child made a lot of mistakes hence he was made to do the worksheets all over again. But so far, all the worksheets he had done (5 sets) are all 100 marks & are within 10mins. Hence, I really see no point why the centre made him
repeat those sets over & over again. Its not just repeating 1 or 2 times, its the same set repeating 4 times!
Any other Kumon parents who will like to share their experiences with me?
I'll probably give the centre a call later to find out as well.vividlaurel:

Hi,
I think that is the strategy used by Kumon. Perfect through repetition. It’s true that over time, kids will get faster with their arithmetic computation but you need ot weigh if that is sufficient and also will they get bored. -
hi littlelambie
repeating the worksheets is not common for my dd. i've only had once and thats becos she spent way too much time on a worksheet, broken down into several sessions. but then again maybe becos my dd doing level 5A that time. maybe at level 3A already involve calculations so much more challenging hence the need to repeat.
most impt is clarify with centre instructor cos they also need feedback from the parents to maximise benefit to your child's learning experience
