Need some advise here from parents who’s kids are with Kumon.

I’ve just enrolled my child to Kumon this week. I realised that the homeworks that my child took back, are all the same sets, eg, 2 sets of 3A21A and 3 sets of 3A30A for example. Is this the norm? I know they do repeat worksheets but by having 3 sets of the same worksheets on the same week, arn’t my child doing the exact same questions everyday? I feel its such a waste of time if that’s the case. Or did they gave the same worksheets out by mistake?

        Please enlighten me. Many thanks!

My kids have also gotten repeats. From what I know about Kumon, they not only have to complete it on time, but complete it accurately. In your case, since you have just enrolled your child this week, maybe they are testing your child. If they find the child can do fast and correct, maybe they will go faster. Then again, I guess things differ in each center.

Many thanks for your reply 🙂

Initially, I thought maybe my child made a lot of mistakes hence he was made to do the worksheets all over again. But so far, all the worksheets he had done (5 sets) are all 100 marks & are within 10mins. Hence, I really see no point why the centre made him
repeat those sets over & over again. Its not just repeating 1 or 2 times, its the same set repeating 4 times! 😞

Any other Kumon parents who will like to share their experiences with me?

I'll probably give the centre a call later to find out as well.

              Hi,

I think that is the strategy used by Kumon. Perfect through repetition. It’s true that over time, kids will get faster with their arithmetic computation but you need ot weigh if that is sufficient and also will they get bored.

                hi littlelambie

repeating the worksheets is not common for my dd. i've only had once and thats becos she spent way too much time on a worksheet, broken down into several sessions. but then again maybe becos my dd doing level 5A that time. maybe at level 3A already involve calculations so much more challenging hence the need to repeat.

most impt is clarify with centre instructor cos they also need feedback from the parents to maximise benefit to your child's learning experience 🙂

                  You are right MMM.
Kumon prides itself over being \"the good centre for learning and enrichment\", it is actually by giving the students the same worksheet again and again so that they can remember the working from the worksheets and replicate them in their exams...

But the issue is that, if you look at the exam paper, how many arithmetic questions are there????

Both my children are attending Kumon in eastpoint.

It is good to start them when they are around 4 years old. The earlier the better.
Both my children start at the age of 5.
                      They are still in Kumon.
Kumon is a good program as it trains your child to be discipline and independant in doing their work.
They are first accessed by the trainer on the level to start off with and no two kids are the same.
The kids are allowed to progress on their learning ability.

You can bring your child to any of the nearest Kumon centre for a free assessment before you decide.

Does anyone had any experiences with mathshub for pre-schoolers and would like to share their views?
