What has she learnt when she completed Sunrise programme? How old is she now? When can the child take the grade 1 exam? Thinking if to switch child to MYC.Hahah... no lah, what i have is based on the limited info i gathered. You might be able to find out more.

In Sunrise, it can be considered more as music appreciation. Kids are exposed to pitch, beat and rhythm etc through singing and games, and are introduced to different percussion instruments like the triangle, drum. It’s really more of play and fun and exposure to music.
Only in Sunshine lessons do the children do more serious learning and play the piano / keyboard. They move through various stages of the programme, and if they do complete the programme to the last level (Moonbeams III), I found out they are then prepared for the ABRSM Grade 2 practical exams. It can be a long process (a few years) though, depending on the age your kid starts. If they start at a younger age, they’ll take longer cos lessons are paced at a slower pace. -

I reckon my girl will be abt 7 / 8 yo by the time she finishes Moonbeams III (if we stick to it!).
By the end of Sunshine I, they’re just beginning to play songs with two hands, but at alternate times (not together yet).
Maybe you could call up the centres and ask which class your child shld join. They shld be better able to advise you, esp since your child seems to have some music background already? -

Hi All,
I am looking for 1-2 more students to start a "Moonbeam" class with my girl who is 6 this year. My younger DS has been attending the Sunshine class at JE branch and I see the great effects of MYC. Now my else girl, who previously had not shown much interest in music, is requesting to learn. But at her level, its better to start at "Moon beam" which is like 2 years and the child will graduate from that with a Grade 2 equivalent and move on to the tradisitinal track of ABSRM.
I really like MYC because of the fun methos it adopts to teach the kids the boring theory. Amazingly they make it interesting enough. My son at 4 now can sight read, know his sofedges (think I spelt wrongly) and more importantly has lots of fun with the loving teachers and fun classmaes. I hope that my children will be more inspired to do music even after they leave the school.
Is anyone with a 6 year old kis interested to start music? Very good foundation as the kids learn thery, practical, sofelges, chords etc. The sofelges is especially great as the normal ABSRM way will not include this. Helps in their listerning a lot. If interested, Pls pm me. -

Hi Sumboh, MYC Hougang is pretty good. The premises is quite new and they have two classrooms. The administrator is friendly and approachable, and Teacher Cindy is patient and good with the kids. Quite firm with the mischievous kids and she gives out lots of nice stickers which the kids love. Which level are you thinking of signing up for?
