      Hi,

Would like to get some advise from those who had been to Hong Kong. I will be going HK next week with a family of 4 adults n 3 young kids. Am finding out which is the best n cheaper way to get from airport to our hotel, Novetel at Nathan. Is it expensive to take a cab? And is the hotel very far from airport? The hotel offer a shutte bus which charge HK150 per person and state that it takes abt 75mins to reach the hotel. Sound that the hotel is v far from airport n thought the charges is high too.

      Appreciate any advise. Thanks.
so you are looking for fastest way to go there? with 4 adults and 3 young kids luggages, u might need 3 taxis

unless ur luggage is little, then u can consider mtr....how young is the kids?

if u wan all-in and dun wan much trouble then the hotel shuttle is better...all will go together and not afraid of being lost.

I bought OCTOPUS CARD at HK Airport Customer Service Counter, head to sign \"Buses to City\" and took Bus A21 to reach Nathan Road...

You can view HK Airport website for more information and also view the map of the hotel you booked to get the correct direction...

        Hope it helps.. 😉

          mum2BG,

HongKong Airport is on Lantau Island.
Nathan Road is in TsimShaTsui - ie. Kowloon side, city area.

It is about 30mins taxi ride. Taxi - you will be charged HK$20 per piece of luggage plus metered fare which should be around HK$180-HK$220 depending on traffic. Are you arriving on weekends ? afternoon ?

4 adults by hotel shuttle is already HK$600 and the journey is 75mins!

Octopus Card is like our Ezlink card - just a stored value card so that you need not dig for coins when you use buses or MRT. You can also tap the reader to deduct money for your purchases in stores like 7-11.

Total up the fares by public transport for your group of 4A+3C to see if you want to take taxi.

Also, HongKong MTRs (ours known as MRT) are very crowded, old and big with many exits. It will not be so hassle-free to navigate out of it with young children, luggages and tired mind after a flight.

We always take taxis and we also usually stay in hotels along Nathan Road.

Another way is to take public transport (which is about HK$18 per adults and half price for kids) to mongkok area first… Then drop off anywhere and transfer to taxi if the bus does not stop at ur hotel… That is wat i did the other time…

Weather was cold enuf for me to b wearing a thick coat.only disneyland day on 30nov was warm to go sleeveless. The rest of my stay there-i was so so cold

We were there on 30 Nov too! Ya boy... it was real hot that day and we had to \"peel off\" of layers!

lucky thing was that i wore sleeveless that day, so just needed to remove jacket. but my kids were in long sleeves, just in case. so they just had to be in them the whole day. but towards the evening, it got cooler so no issues... 😄

                  Hi,

Thanks so much for all your advise.

SBKS, my kids are 7 & 5 yrs old n another 18mths. So don’t think we will be able to take the bus and MTR with all the luggages.

Pixiedust, we are arriving on wkday evening. Afraid of traffic jam as it should be ‘knock off’ time. Taxi only take abt 30mins? Don’t understand why the shuttle bus takes 75mins. Could it be that the bus is going to a few hotels? How many people can the taxi takes?

                  Thanks.

We had 5 adults & 2 kids and we took 2 taxis from HKIA to Tsim Sha Tsui area. We arrived on a weekday noon time, not so much issue of traffic jam. Taxi fare was abt HK250.

When we were planning, we thought abt Airport Express to Kowloon and trsf to bus/MTR or taxi or Cityflyer bus to Tsim Sha Tsui. After much calculations, we realised that not much savings, maybe SGD5 or so, in this way. Therefore, we decided to take a taxi instead.

Do take note that not they do not have lifts or escalators at some of the MTR exits, this can be tormenting to huddle your luggage up to the ground level.

Taxis in HK can take 5 pax.

I am not sure of maximum number of people restriction in a taxi. My first thought is you will need 2 taxis ?

Same as chergaby, we do not use airport shuttle, MTR, bus or airport express for airport transfers. It makes no sense for us since we only need 1 taxi - faster and cheaper. Hence, I have no idea why it will take 75mins for airport shuttle.

I did a quick check on your hotel location : http://www.novotel.com/gb/hotel-6771-novotel-hong-kong-nathan-road-kowloon/location.shtml
It LOOKS like it is along Nathan Road which is a main road. Weekdays traffic should be fine unless there is freak weather condition. Usually it is the small side roads which are badly jammed due to illegal parking and the numerous pedestrian crossings. For Friday evenings/night and Saturday afternoons/evening/nights, I strongly recommend avoid taking taxis.

If I were you, I will take taxi.
