What is L1R5?
-
Can anyone pls advise me on this:
If my L1R5 is 11 pts and my net point is 11 - (2 bonus) = 9 pts,
and if another pupil’s L1R5 is 13 pts and his net point is 12 - (4 bonus point) = 8 pts;
Will I be given the priority to be admitted to that JC since my raw L1R5 points are lower or they will they only consider net points? -

that is why the bonus points there for -
Even if you have the same nett points, the one with more bonus points will get the priority. Raw L1R5 is basically not taken into account for JC posting.

That’s the reason why sec 2 streaming is VERY important. Personally I feel student A taking double science and pure humans will benefit more than student B triple science with no pure humans. This is because A can use the better of 2 humans while B has to rely on combined humans, so if B does not do well in it, It has to be counted in L1R5.

But then if u were to become a sci person in jc, it will be difficult without triple sci -
Some schools do let triple science students do double humanities.

not sure what you meant by Sci Person in JC, but i assume you are referring to taking Sci subjects in JC. from what i know, not many JCs allow the students to do triple sci !!
Most students will do 4H2 or 3H2+1H1 (excluding GP, PW and 2nd Lang). One of the H2/H1 needs to be a contrast subject. Eg for 4 H2, students will take H2 Maths, 2 H2 Sciences and 1 H2 Arts subject.
for tri sci combination, the student will do 4H2+1H1, where one of the subject must be Arts subject. this combination is tough and i don't think there are many students doing such combination.
hence unless your child wants to do tri sci combination in JC, otherwise i think a 2 sci 2 humanitites is better than 3 sci and 1 humanities. -
I feel it depends on the child. If the child is very weak in humanities and strong in Science and maths subjects, doing triple science in Sec 3 is better.

Though I've 3 boys and 2 of them have gone on to teritary education, I'm not sure of the system. Can anyone advise on DS3 choice? He is doing 8 subjects and wish to be a Maths Lecturer when he grows up which seems that he has to take the JC route (that's the reason I'm more concerned about he being on the right track). His subjects combination is:
E Maths
A Maths
English and Chinese Languages
Physic/Chem (combined science)
History/social studies (combined Humans)
Literature (elective)
What subjects can he take in JC which will enable him to enter NUS and major in Maths?
:please: -
