Are we telling our children that MONEY can solve all problems?

MONEY buys quality homework, project work…etc
      MONEY buys quality sleep…
      Sounds like a good deal…?

I hope the tutor(s)who is/are helping the kids to do their homework is/are not ex- teachers…

I did encounter students who paid their classmates to do their homework.
Of course when the teachers found out these "homework business", these students were punished accordingly.

When there is a demand, there will always be a supply.

I would rather save that $6k monthly and then use the money to send them overseas (if they cant make it under the local system) … less stress!!

But sometimes I wonder......didn't the system start out as OK?

We human (some) wants to beat the system and isn't that how the whole systems just evolve and evolve?

NO matter what kind of system/policy there is......we eventually are the one who will morph it. Look at those who start 'enriching' their kids at 3-4 yo...and we are not talking about piano, art, swimming etc....it's English, Chinese, Sci, Maths etc. :siam: I also know of parents who wants the differentiation cos' they want their kids to be above others......... but then, frankly many others dare not be honest about this 'secret desire' of theirs.....

In everything… there is a tendancy to drift off centre. Even in a semi-conductor plant production line, engineers find the strange phenomenon they call "parameter drift". None of the production specifications have been changed, and yet the whole line has drifted off and has begun to produce defects.

It is a fact of nature that organisms and organisations drift towards chaos.

Engineers are very vigilant about parameter drift because the consequences are serious. They watch each portion of the system carefully and make necessary small adjustments to bring it back into equilibrium. MOE slept and forgot to watch the line.

It’s not a big deal. If you leave it alone, it will drift. You have to watch over it and make the right adjustments in view of changing circumstances. The past won’t come back again. The present needs to be managed and adjustments will manage it.

                  It's call.. wear and tear..

And yes.. tweaking is needed when it drifts off course..

talking abt kiasu parents.. it is the population's fault?

                  or the leadership..?

Yup... some parents view their kids' good results as their bragging rights.

If you leave it to market forces, the gap will widen. The system of Lords and Ladies of the Manor watching over serfs started out good but slowly degenerated into Haves and Have Nots... with one exploiting another. Capitalism started out good too, providing opportunities to serfs such as us to succeed and grow wealth. Yet, increasingly, market forces dictate to the poor lower and lower wages (because the poor have no bargaining power).

Left to itself, ANY system degenerates. The smart ones learn to exploit it and get away with more. The disciplined ones can accumulate resources and use it to get more. That's why some people can blow $6000 on tuition. They have more and can thus get more for themselves.

It is true that those who are poor are there because they did not work as hard... or did not know how to save money. In England at one stage, these people were shipped off forcibly to Australia. England didn't want the dregs of society to stay in England. If Singapore can do that, Singapore probably would... but we can't. If we allow too much differentiation, our society will break apart... and there will be violence and unrest.

The problem is still small enough. Solve it now, and avert the kind of happenings that put Gaddafi's corpse in a freezer room for people to gawk at. The rich and powerful will always be a minority... and therefore vulnerable when the majority of people decide to violently level the playing field. Singapore in the 1960s is no stranger to violence. It has happened before. It can happen again. The problem is very small now. We don't run the risk of violence yet. Does it mean we don't solve the problem?

Those who WANT differentiation are at the top and confident of winning. The top is always a minority and if we don't care for those lesser endowed, then it will be ourselves who will pay heavy price eventually. DD took 8 distinctions at A levels. Her boyfriend took 7. Do you think that with me as a Grandma and 2 parents such as these 2, our grandchildren cannot differentiate themselves? They are likely to be top too... and likely to be the minority.

We are proud of her... yes... but this pride is eclipsed when I think that there could be a possibility that she could die a violent death 40 years hence. Pride for the short-term and fear for the long-term. Think about that when you want differentiation at the top.

May the force be with you... Don't end up on the dark side though...

Right or wrong? Depends on the return of investments (ROI) in future.
If the kid earns $12K and gives his parents $6K allowance... Then 100% ROI.
If the kid ends up jobless and becomes 败家子... Then becomes negative 100% ROI.
