Childcare or no Childcare?

On the same note, I have two more questions:
Since we can now choose between sending kids to CCC or the 'conventional' kindergarten schools, how will each decision impact their primary schools admissions?
I understand that for the more 'popular' primary schools, they have a lot more stringent rules in assessing the kids abilities before enrolling them. In that case..would either route (CCC or kindergarten) gives more advantage over the other?
As what the others have mentioned, no such thing as \"preferential admission to primary sch if your kid is w a certain preschool\"....Admission to Pri 1 is strictly those Phase 1-2C stated in the MOE website.
So worrry not - just go ahead & plan for your kid which CC/Kindy best suits your child's needs & requirements.
I guess most parents are alike - as in if the parent is not working, the \"preferred\" choice USUALLY will be kindy (altho i know there will always be exception ) But really, whether CCC or kindy, i guess the choice is really up to individual parent
Just to share, bcos i hv opted for kindergarten, i have resigned from my job and intend to spend the next 1-2 years bonding w my child. i plan to return to work in 1-2 year's time ... hopefully by then it would not be too difficult for me to get a job and i need not suffer too huge paycut (fingers' crossed keke).... but i know i can't have everything lah... so baby steps first hopefully after 1 year, my child would have well-settled down in the kindy and would be able to take the school bus to school .... will see how things map out then who knows maybe by stroke of luck i will strike it big at next year's (annual) hongbao TOTO draw .. then i need not worry abt how to return to workforce ... hahahaha.... wish me luck, ok? hahaa.

Just having the same dilemma as some of the parents here on whether to put my gal in CCC or not… and hope to seek advices from parents here… im currenly a sahm and planning to return to workforce after my gal turns 18mths. Just wondering shld i put her in CCC near to my parents who stay in West area or near our home (We stay in the North)? So far, i only went to My first Skool and personally don’t like the environment as the children will have their meals/naps/activities at the same area… like so poor thing… are all CCC the same? -
How old is your child now?
If you’re planning to return to the workforce and your parents are not the main caregiver then the CCC is your only choice apart from employing a domestic helper. If you need to go over your parents’ place for dinner every day then by all means the CCC should preferably be near them and if you can manage your own dinner with your husband and child/children and you are definitely able to fetch before 7pm, then a CCC near your home might be more practical.
If your parents can help out afternoons, then only half day CCC option is also available for your baby.
Not all CCCs are the same definitely. As for the space of a CCC, the bigger the space the better cause then they can allot proper areas for sleep, dining and studying. But not all centres are very big. Also you need to factor in the cost. Not just for fees but also if there is a need for a separate $$$ that might be needed for travel expenditure. -

Yah radiantmum, at least the children learn something rather than stay at home.

definitely cc (if u can find a good one). at least the teachers are trained in early childhood education and if u not happy with anything, can feedback (ie. complain
) and the director/supervisor/principal can address it.
maid lousy - although can change but who can guarantee u get a good one after u change? :stupid:
parents/in-laws - cannot feedback/complain. they likely say they also raise you or your spouse the same way so whats wrong?? :roll: -
My child is 14mths. My option is definitely put her in childcare or with my mum, as I don't trust maid. Mayb half day CCC is a good option, at least nt so tiring for her. then slowly convert to full day.. yet to source for CCC tho.. any recommendation for CCC in the west? Prefer jurong east or jur west.. I think cooking dinner for her will be a challenge if i were to manage on my own? imagine after work, i need to fetch her before 7pm and then rush home to cook dinner for her.. by the time, we all settle down, it will be ard 8-9pm?? then it will be time for bed n don't even hv time to bond with her?? however on the other hand, by putting her in west side CCC, we need to travel frm north to west every day, n i hvnt take into consideration on the travelling time to my future workplace..
come to think of it, either ways are tiring.. my hb cant really help me as he works shift. so i can say, im the only one handling alone, unless is his off day..buds:

sorry i dun understand. :? if u put in cc, y dun just put near your home in north or workplace? y stil need to put in west which is near to parent's place? like that so siong!

bcoz if i put in ccc near my place, nobody prepare dinner for her leh… i also knw it will be siong and have yet to think of a better solution… any idea??

Cos foreverj, there are parents who stay very far from their workplaces and this means never being able to reach before 7pm, which is the childcare closing time. Parents who put their children into childcares nearer to grandparents' place find it more convenient that if the parents themselves are unable to fetch on time, then the grandparents can help pick up too. And for no-cooking full time working mums, they usually go to either in-laws or parents' place to have dinner together after children are picked up from the childcare.
Parents who have no means of transport will find it difficult as well if they were to place their children in childcares nearer to their workplaces, cause this will mean that the children have no choice but to travel all the way in jam-packed trains and buses due to the after-office peak hours. And not everyone is gracious enough to give up seats to children, so the children end up swaying and swaying or worse, no place to even hold on to steady their stance all the way till they reach their destinations.
Final decision will still rely a lot on logistics and convenience.
