All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

ks2011:
Parent volunteering is not meant only for well qualified parents. The school has full rights to select whom they want.
Well said... Quote For Truth :rahrah: -

There are many well-qualified parents who applied and not selected in the popular schools. Thus, don't take it to heart.Hi ,
writting this msg with total disappointment , that my parent volunteering application for 2007 born with Raffles girls primaary school has been rejected. We both me and my husband are well qualified, i cant understand on which damn basis do they even select the application for PV.
I have written an email to David Chew the Admin manager of PV and the chair person but got no reply , went to the school and they are away .
Really dont know what to do and ultimately what for them they will just say sorry and i dont have a chance also to try...
I knew of an 'O' level holder who was selected for PV as he was able to provide services that most parents can't provide, not even Jim Rogers IMPO. Most importantly, he continues his services even after his child got into the school. This is his 4th yr of service. I salute him and I fully understand why he was selected. Am also glad that the school truly looks at the services that the parents can provide, as well as their sincerity, not solely based on their qualifications and financial status.
You may be in demand if you can provide medical, IT services, etc. Other than that, if you are referring to mentoring, traffic wardens, etc, most parents can do the tasks. You need to be able to provide niche services that the school requires. -
Selection is very stringent. They want the best of course so that explains the phase 2B. At least you have tried so no regrets at least.

hi,
may I know what kind of medical services the schools may require?
thanks -

I applied for PV in a popular school a couple of years back and was rejected as well. But i learned that we should \"focus\" on the areas that the school excel in, example CCA or Music or others. Nevertheless, I will be registering my DS1 in P2B (GRL) this July.Hi ,

for foreigner, non-Singaporean and non-PR, there is no chance to get to the phase 2B even with 40 hours of PV work’s done, right?
-
not for hot, popular / branded schools.
by end of phase 2C, all hot popular schools are snapped up.
all foreigners can only enter Phase 3 (last phase)

it doesn't mean that once you are well qualified, your chance for PV is high.Hi ,
writting this msg with total disappointment , that my parent volunteering application for 2007 born with Raffles girls primary school has been rejected.
We both me and my husband are well qualified, i cant understand on which damn basis do they even select the application for PV.
my friend is a primary school teacher, teaching English for many years in a Convent girls school.
She also applied PV for a hot, branded school - at the other side of Bukit Timah road. Her daughter was born 2007, due for P1 2014.
Her PV application was rejected. She wrote in to appeal 2nd time - still got rejected. Her husband, a doctor (also well qualified) then helped her appeal & spoke to the Principal. Also not successful. Somehow, this school doesn't need his medical skills. My friend was very upset, disappointed.
different school(s) have different need. -

may I know which school require medical services for PV?
apparently, the school that my friend applied PV for - doesn't need. -
hi,
Some branded schools dont need PV so even u offer medical/teaching services they still reject. e.g MGS at the other end of bukit timah road…
