What do you want to know about the ‘inside’ of RGS campus?

They’ve got a nice open air amphitheatre in which teachers do conduct lessons there. I’ve seen lit lessons being conducted there & students will actually perform there.

Classrooms are all air-conditioned and girls will get their own lockers located just outside their classroom. No need to walk too far to grab their stuff.

They’ve got great labs & computer facilities.

It’s been some time since I’ve been there, but generally the school building is quite old. However, I think they’ve done some sprucing up, so it should be quite alright now.

thanks! i wonder why is it that nygh seems to be one of the only schools without air-conditioning -.-\"
Eh, estellex, how you cope during yr primary school years? got aircon classrooms in pri schools? you need aircon canteen also? PE how ah? No aircon field anywhere. 😉

hope I don't make you upset, it's just that as a parent, I wonder how you can face the future if your concerns for school selection is Got aircon or not? It seems so trivial a criteria.

Haiz..why are kids so spoilt nowadays? Need air-cond classrooms? Then better hope the JC section has air-cond classrooms (for tutorials) otherwise how to cope after 4 years of indulgence.

Luckily estellex is not a boy, else when she goes to the army, she'll go :!: WHY NO AIR-CON CAMP/3-TONNER/CANTEEN??? :stupid:

Does RGS offers Japanese as 3rd language within the school so the students do not need to travel to other centres?

                Fairy:
                Hi,

My daughter is keen to indicate RGS as her school of choice. Apart from the academic expectations from the students, would appreciate it if anyone here can share regarding the following nitty-gritty ''concerns'':-

                1. Is RGS strict about the girls' hair? Are they allowed to keep long hair?
                2. Are the girls allowed to wear ankle socks?
                3. How about school shoes? Any restrictions?
                4. How about watch? Is there any type or colour of watches that are disallowed?
                5. Jacket - any school-jacket?

                Thanks.
                1. actually they are quite lax about the hair, but fringe cannot go over eyebrows, though if you put it behind your ear when a prefect comes then she won't book you.
                2. no
                3. must be 80% white
                4. not really
                5. there is a school sweater which can be bought during orientation i think, but most of the girls stop wearing it cos you have to pull it over your head and it's really troublesome

hope to see your daughter in rgs!

                  Fairy:
That means this year's ESSIS cut-off is not 264, as claimed by ACSI.

Please also checked if the child is in GEP or mainstream. GEP students do not have any cut-off for ESSIS. Only mainstream students are subjected to the cut-off.

                    Hi,

Any idea if it is difficult to get into Guitar Ensemble in RGS? Will there be any audition? How is the practice frequency like?
                    Hi Fairy,

                    Congrats & welcome to RGS.

Thanks, Dharma, for the link. However, I realised there's not much info on RGS' website.

                        Hi julieann,

Thank you so much for the info. My daughter will be very dissapointed that she can't continue wearing her ankle socks. It's a small matter to me though. I have more queries about RGS. Hope you can enlighten me.

Do we get the booklist, order books, purchase uniforms, all in one day during 23Dec09 when we report to the school we're posted to? If so, I need to write down the list of books my elder child already has so as not to end up with two sets of the same book. By the way, does RGS year 1 uses Animal Farm or To kill A Mocking Bird as their lit books? How about Science Books? Will it be refered to during lesson? Or are they just for reference?

For uniforms, what is the recommended no. of sets to purchase?

By the way, my daughter did not participate in RGS' DSA. She has therefore not been offered a place yet. I believe she should be able to have her school of choice. However, many of her friends are joining NYGH. We're beginning to be unsure if we've made the right choice. She likes both schools.
