Arielmermaid, for my son, mercury is v low but cadmium off the chart. V high in molybdenum n potassium. I asked for dmsa n dmps as I read with many good reviews. But my Dan doc refused to give citing they r a form of drug n rather give my son ch77 or zeolite. In think different doc, different school of thought.
His bowel was really stinko too. N bloated stomach. Improve lots after I changed his diet.
To minimize dustmite, I have stopped letting him sleeping on mattresses. I will lay playmat follow by charcoal pad then bed sheet on the floor. Almost every other day, I will bring the pad to sun it. Wash the bed sheet every week. Service the zircon frequently n make sure no mould growing in the unit.
Probiotic - I realized both u n lavendery give more than one type of probiotic. May I know why? My son is given only dds probiotic. One cap in the morning n one cap at night. After reading up so much on gut healing, I realized probiotic is really important. I just started my son on coconut water kefir less than a month. My husband was amazed with it after seeing my son's behavior. It acts as a booster to all the improvement that he has. I wished I knew of it existence long ago
I gave 3 types of probiotics mainly because of different specific strains. Our kids here need minimum 200 CFU daily as the maintenance dose. I read that it's always good to rotate between different brands of probiotics so that the body do not get resistance to the particular stains in long run.
I add Culturelle Lacto GG as her daily maintenance probiotics becos of my girl's clostridia and streps in her comprehensive stool test. Lacto GG helps to kill the spores of clostridia. Whereas Boulardii is a good probiotic yeast which fight against the bad yeast.
When I'm putting my girl on antifungal and antibacterial protocol, I would increase the dosage of probiotics to 600CFU or 800CFU depending on situation. However my girl do not do well on BED coconut kefir due to the streps strain inside, hence I am force to stop doing kefir by July. Otherwise I would continue to do BED coconut kefir on her. -

Then call her to check? I didn't meet the AED and the teacher until sch opened for two weeks. In fact the teacher assignment was also random. I didn't even meet the principal and VP at all. Dyslexia is different leh... Hopefully they have increased more AED staff by now. So far so good and we didn't have to see the senior management.
I'm so worried about mine! ONE AED who specialises in Dylexia. I called her twice to meet up with her and the VP (who is supposed to call me on the allocation of classes) and she assured me that the VP will arrange the meeting with me by October latest...till now...nothing!Fizz:

I'm not sure if this happens to all schs or even all classes with autistic kids. For my boy's mainstream pri sch, he has an AED attached to his class. This AED is with the class for maths and English and she will make sure my boy does his work etc. I don't need to pay a cent. She's like a shadow teacher during lesson time. My greatest worry when he first started sch was more of the unstructured time like recess when there is no supervision and he doesn't have a routine to follow to. I pv with the sch for the first two weeks during recess and once weekly after that to check on him. The form teacher has somehow put to the children to watch over him during recess time. So someone will always be eating with him. End of recess, if he doesn't appear in the hall, someone will go and get him from the canteen. His best buds now are his recess pals who eat with him, even share food with him and play with him.
Perhaps when looking for a mainstream school, u can check on the level of support they have for special needs kids. In my boy's sch, there are a lot of AED staff.
Anyone whose kid has a very short focus in group setting and any tactics to counter this?
My son also very short attn span. But heard from his teacher he has improved tremendously. Previously she started a reward chart to get him started on his work. Now she doesn't need to use it anymore coz he has become auto already. No need to run after him and make him do his work. Chinese more difficult coz that teacher didn't believe in rewarding for good behaviour. So it didn't start on a good step. While e form teacher gave him AV responsibilities, the Chinese teacher refused to let him touch anything. So he was pretty confused for a while coz he thought he could do that in class and the Chinese teacher kept scolding him for touching the AV equipment. Had to explain to him that different teachers work differently and he shouldn't assume that permission from one teacher means permission from all. Well, nearly a year is over. So happy it's been rather good in terms of schooling. Not top of the class but not in the bottom either.
That's good to hear for your boy!
Yup! I will call to check again next week. I did not want to be too hot on their heels either as they prolly have tonnes of other matters...though it didn't feel like they view parental concerns too much (haizzz...so much for being in a 'popular' school). :xedfingers:
I just came back from a session with another psychologist for behavioural management. It's supposed to be a parent-child session where the psych will work with the parent on solutions to tackle some of the behavioural concerns. She gave me some tips on gradually lengthening his focus and 2 more sessions before he goes to P1. Hopefully by then we can at least know what tactics work. And I asked her to see if she could recommend us to Rehab  though she still needed to get to the PD again. -

You may also do normal supplements. It's not a must to see DAN docs. Just that I prefer a professional to guide me along and assist me on the doubts and queries I faced.oh dear lavendry, i tink cant ever afford my son for DAN liao...

Mainstream therapies are still more important than alternative treatments. Just my personal thoughts only. -

They will teach phonics in school too. Mine was taught in school. I think if u aren't very good with phonics, better don't teach in case you teach the wrong things. Just do simple reading everyday will do.
For my boy, he mastered basic phonics very fast when he was 3. I let him watch Leapfrog Phonics DVD as he could follow the songs and phonetic sounds. But he took a looong time to grasp blending which I started end of last year. For my girl, I started her with Starfall and she recognise all the basic phonics by 2 and she loves to fiddle with the mouse to play the phonics games. When I taught my boy, I would google for consonents and learn the sounds too. I work very closely with his cc's teacher and she would whatsapp me to explain phonetic rules which I may not understand.
Try this website:slmkhoo:
Fizz,
Oh my thanks. Then I must try tO teach my son phonics..
Any good teaching materials for phonics for my son? DVD or bOoks ?
http://www.starfall.com/
I didn't use it for my own kids but have heard good reviews about it. -
ImMeeMee:
Medicated antifungals and antibacterials such as diflucan, vancomycin, nystatin should be taken with doc's guidance. Becos they can be hard on liver as they will raise the liver enzymes.
lavendery, any safety issues relating to the use of antifungals or antibacterials?
On the other hand, if you do natural antifungals/antibacterials such as OLE (Olive Leaf Extract), GSE (Grapefruit seed extract), OoO (oil of oregano), goldenseal etc. These are natural herbs and hence they are quite safe in my own opinion. -
Lavendery, please tell me how do u know that kefir is not suitable for your child. My son has watery stool for past week but I am not sure due to eating unclean food or cleansing effect from kefir. Cos I am also experiencing v strong herxheimer reaction from kefir.
Must be quite frustrating for u to find out that your child cannot drink bed coconut water kefir. But how about milk kefir? I bet u were a science student
cos I am having a hard time to absorb information esp with very cheem terminology -
ImMeeMee, it is not easy to do 100%gfcf n u did it for a year plus :salute: too much work, too many temptation. Esp if there r siblings in the family.

ArielMermaid:
omg, i actually like fish a lot and i ate a lot of them during pregnancy. cod fish and normal not high in mercury fishes, i dont know why my son still becomes like that.
Hi ImMeeMee,ImMeeMee:
Arielmermaid
Thanks for the comprehensive write up. Yes DAN is not considered mainstream and hence there is some skepticism.
Just for my learning, is there a reason why the mercury level in you child is high? It's a heavy metal that doesnt accumulate unless through consumption. How does it get into the body?
I guess it was because I ate a lot of fish, and my son started eating fish ever since he could take solid food. Perhaps he was born with impaired ability to excrete mercury, so the mercury keeps accumulating. Also, the more mercury you have in your body, the harder it is for the body to excrete mercury. So, its a chicken and egg story =(
may i know how to get the hair test done for mercury level check?
