      studentneduts:

Hi,im a p6 student and have applied for dhs dsa.I am now on the waiting list and will have a 50/50 chance of getting into dhs if i list dhs as one of my preferred schools.I am good in all my subjects except chinese. Can i survive in dhs if i get in?

Not too worry lah....not every1 in DHS are good in Chinese lang....
The sch promo criteria does not based on HCL alone.....
It is based on overall GPA and at least a C in Lang Arts. ( note is Lang Arts not HCL).
But still, have to put in effort to obtain a decent grade as not to affect yr overall GPA....

To those pupils or parents who are concern abt DHS HCL.....
esp when comes to decisions making for S1 postings,
the above may give u some indication......
of coz, pupils themselves mustnt hate CL lang in the first place.....

        Hi Augmum,

Do u know what is the avg GPA for sec 3 this yr? In ur previous post u said half the cohort failed geog, this is going to pull down their GPA as geog is compulsory for GPA.

DS didnt do well this yr.
        Hi Fat mama,
I have no idea of the ave GPA for sec 3.
gal's peers fr other classes also have no info fr their FTs....
Yes, half of the cohort failed Geog paper this EOY.....
this was announced to all them on the day of returning of their papers.

is yr son taking Geog ? ( sorri, i cant rmb, confuse with other parents)

I am an DHS Alumnus and my DS is a current Dunmanian. Regarding issue about HCL, my views are:

          1. Given there is no pure Chinese Primary school now, the general level of CL for most students are fairly similar, especially if they can score 250+. So dont worry too much about coping.

          2. SAP school nowadays is not much different from other schools in term o language usage. Students in DHS converse mostly in English.

          3. China has became the world's 2nd largest country in term of GDP. There is economic impetus (in addition to cultural) to learn HCL.

All schools have pros and cons. Choosing a school is a personal matter. Many children would have a dream school when they are in P5. I have a niece on WL for DHS. Wish it will become a CO 😄

I would like to compliment the teachers in DHS.

It was raining cats and dogs just before the A Level paper this afternoon. Though I drove my girl to school, I was worried for those who were taking public transport. After the paper, my girl told me that some teachers actually went to the bus stop and waited for these students with umbrella. It was such a warm and touching act. Good job and thank you, DHS teachers!

Hi, I am a Year One student this year. Heard from my seniors that DHS A-level results are not really good(can be better) n some of the yr 3s n 4s seniors had been discussing about SH life in DHS. From what I’ve heard, they said the standard of DHS is quite low compared to other JCs(as in the top few) n seniors r having difficulty coping with their studies in Year 5 compared to the workload in Year 4(which is already vry heavy–complained by senior) N recently, one of my Year 4 senior applied to transfer to VJ. Seniors gathered again n discussed… Some of them said VJ is better than DHS(although some said it’s the same) I am a bit worried here as my Year One results are quite low compared to my classmates.(not really vry low but a B in terms of GPA, n a lot of Q2s n Q3s among the 6 subjects, got Q4s but not Q1s) My seniors told me that Year 1 n 2 are a lot easier than Year 3 n 4. Nothing much but just a bit worried of my studies… n one more thing, my friends r all anime fans n they introduced me a lot of anime stuff to me but I’ve only started watching after EOY. My mum told me that I nid to study as I slack for the whole yr but my friends told me to rest for a while. I’ve heard tat students whom r addicted to animes(not only tat but just addiction) will fall behind unknowingly. I dont want to fall behind others but I just dunno how to tell them I want to study(I’ve told them but they keep asking me to rest n they r enjoying their animes now). Not that they r addicted, but they had worked hard throughout the yr n they deserved the time to rest but not me. I m stressed by my friends now~(sry for the lengthy post)

If u are worried about the school’s standard u shouldn’t have got in there, just one year there and u are saying so much things about ur school. My dd is presently there in year 4 and would like to say what u claimed is untrue. We should all know that as years passed, the workload and degree of difficulties are definitely there, so we need to get more prepared for the challenge right? Not surprise to know that one or two seniors will apply to other jc, even other school’s seniors might do the same. To think that a top school of cut off points 256 to 260 u think how low the standard can be?

I would advise u to work harder now so that u can jump ‘ship’ to Vj too, otherwise Vj would not accept anyone with no good result. If the said senior as mentioned is no good, u think Vj would accept him?

Btw, have u seen DHS A level results ??
I think i did post some of their recent yrs results in this thread.
The fact is ......statistics show that their A level results is improving year after year.
Needless to say, their results is not as good as the Top Few Jcs which have come a long way......
besides intake of pupils with higher PSLE T scores as well as cream of the crops from O level pupils.....

It is not a surprise to find few pupils moving to VJC (in terms of locality they are juz nearby)
And there are pupils joining in.....

Oh yes, pls listen to yr mother to study hard and not to slack...( i mean sch days)
as u are only in yr 1, which is considered as a honeymoon year....
Workload and stress level for yr 3 / 4 and senior high are blatantly higher than lower sec...same goes for other IP schs.
And u ought to study hard too if u wanna to use yr results to transfer to VJC....

There is time to study and there is time to play....do the right thing at the right time..... 😉 😂
