Hi, is it true now that if we get a new maid from agency, we have to pay their placement fee (which last time was paid by the maid via loan, and we deduct from their pay)? So from 1st month onwards they get their full salary?

So that means we have to pay agency fee, placement fee and insurance. And the maid pay nothing to come here to work?

What if they suka suka work for a few days/weeks then ask for transfer or go home, and we have to pay everything again to get a replacement?

I have always felt that when the maid is the one that breaks the contract, they should be penalised, not the employer (unless due to valid reasons like abuse etc).

Seems like this industry is another Pay-and-Pay for FDWs employers 😞

Yes this is true. The situation is changing for the maids but not for poor employees like us…can only blame our "garmen’ not fighting the rights.

I hv no problem the DH salary is going up since it is still cheap labor to pay someone even $15 a day to work night and day for us. But as compared to our miserable increment of 2-5% every year, this is certainly a struggle for all of us plus the heavy maid levy

I am thinking of changing my maid…call a few agency today and all say nowadays employer must bear the maid loan- that is no salary deduction anymore - which means one must be willing to pay up to $4000 to hire a maid

Does it apply to all nationalities of FDWs? They are just making it expensive and difficult to hire FDW for the average families, who are most likely the ones that need the help most to look after the young and old.

The gahmen on 1 hand encourage births but on the other making it difficult for family to get help to look after the kids, what a joke!

Seems like message is very clear - only those who can afford to hire help or 1 parent no need to work - should procreate, the rest, dun even think about it.

My new helper (jus came 2-3 months) has requested for transfer but I rejected her request. Her reasons being she cannot handle my 2 DS alone. She used to work for a family with Mam at home to mann the kids, so she jus did housework.

Though after talking to her, she agreed to stay on, worry that she may change her mind and if I need to get a replacement, the cost is gonna be very high (and who knows may be unaffordable) for me.

sigh.. my helper is down with chicken pox! she been resting at my home for about a week already. I had to change my arrangement in the caring of my girl. (thank God is school holidays now)

if you willing and know helper is staying long with you 🤷 , try to vaccine her (and family members) against chicken pox. really hard to say when and who can get it. :xedfingers:
With the jab, it really helps a lot. My kids and I had the jab and the chickenpox experience was mild...but hubby was badly hit.

My brother's Myanmar maid arriving this sat...my mum having the jitters bcos she had been maid less for many years. Further more Myanmar maid cannot speak English and newbie.

Depending on the nationality. For Indo, I hear from my friends the agency fee alone is close to 2K

I just called a couple of agency today since my helper decides to go home next Feb . All the agencies I called hv implemented the change. Nation is charging $2600 for agency fee +++ and plus 7%GST + don't know what documentation fee the maid has to bear and this is the only fee we can deduct from salary 🤷 The other agency is charging $2500 +++ also- and all no more free replacement!

I guess what we have to do is to add up all the cost and see the difference since there are so many other charges

my girl also had the jab when young, but i still hope she doesnt' catch it. By this week, it will be 14 days of rest for helper and 14 days incubation period over for my girl too.

good luck to your mum! :xedfingers:

Anything she saw that my child misbehaves, she will report to me and I will discipline my child myself. Already told her since day 1. Previous helper tried to be the \"fortress\" when I discipline my child and I told her not to. Don't like it.
