    • RE: Order from Amazon

Using a Vpost address is having your online purchases from either USA, Europe & Japan sent to a local Vpost address in those regions, which then on sends it to your S'pore address. In some cases, the postage charges can work out cheaper if sent via Vpost vs charges if sent direct to S'pore by the online seller, or in instances where the online seller has free local delivery or does not ship direct to S'pore, going via Vpost is also an option.

Charges at Vpost are calculated based on volumetric weight or actual weight, whichever is higher - https://www.vpost.com.sg/vpost/welcome?page=shipping_rates.html&option=4&lnav=shipping_sidenav_rt.html

I believe on Amazon the cost of direct shipment to S'pore from USA of a DVD is app USD12:40. If sent via Vpost I think it would work out to app S$18.20 (assuming DVD is less than 500g). So in this instance, I don't think using Vpost would be more cost effective. This is just a back-of-envelope calculation, u may wish to do your own calculations, based on actual weight of your purchases.

Guess such centres will always have some amount of business, as they prey on anxious parents, who may be keen to consider all sorts of options regardless of whether it sounds plausible at all, and in some cases when you have another \"parent\" recommending that it works cos their kid became smarter as a result of the training, there will then naturally be interested parties who may wish to reverse / enhance what nature has given their child! Imagine a program that can make one smarter??!!

    • RE: Learning Chinese (Primary/Preschool)

      Hi Chenonceau

Just wanted to let you know that I have always enjoyed reading all your posts, they come across as very well balanced & well thought through. Your POV are always well put and argued, without being strident or abrasive, and they come across as very mature views, without being the "end all & be all", always appreciating that everyone has different considerations & priorities.

Most of all you are truly a very gracious lady, whom many have lots to learn from, myself included. I do hope to continue having the privilege of reading your POV on the varied subjects that you have an interest in. Thank you.

Can anyone give me some dieting tips? I have been on Jenny Craig for a little under 2 months and I have lost 13 pounds. The program has become too expensive for me to afford, but I would still like to lose 10 more pounds. Summer is quickly approaching and I would like to lose it as quickly as possible. I need some good dieting tips, i have heard the special K diet works?

Suggest cut down / out the carbo, sure way to lose weight!

BTW why \"summer is quickly approaching\"? U from overseas?

    • RE: Con piano-tutor

Perhaps something to learn from this incident is that other than checking credentials of tutors, the new tutor should produce his / her NRIC too so that the NRIC number and legal name can be noted. If of course the tutor comes highly recommended from reliable sources then such steps of verification may not be necessary. Especially for home tutors (not attached to reliable agencies), reality is one would not really know whether whatever info she / he has provided are true and reliable, when so much reliance is actually being put on their credibility to help the child.

At least then when later police reports are made etc, the personal details can also be lodged with the police, for the report to have any "effect" at all.

It’s just not right when there are such unscrupulous people out there preying on parents’ anxiousness to provide necessary coaching etc for their kids, and they can get away with it. In this case, appears that she has been in operation since 2008!
