2010 DSA(Direct School Admission)

Has anyone applying for DSA under the sports domain heard from NYGH or DHS? I wonder if they've sent out their interview invitations for this domain?

Several, not all, of my DD's friends who applied under the same sport were invited for interview at NYGH next week. My DD was not called. From what I can gather from this forum, NYGH does not grant interviews for all DSA applicants. Getting an interview may not mean she is successful or not successful, and not getting an interview may mean one is totally in, hence no need for interviews, or totally out, also no need for interview. I can only say that I am glad that the selection process for sports DSA for NYGH has started so the wait should not be too long from now - another week maybe? At least we can finally get an answer.

So far NYGH seems to be starting the DSA process for GEP students first, followed by mainstream academic last week, then by sports DSA this coming week. Also interview or no interview does not seem to mean much, as the experience of ningy shows.

No news so far from DHS too.

What happens if the child did not do that well during PSLE and that he became under-qualified for that school he has accepted through DSA earlier? Surely that school still accept him.

What do you mean by under-qualified? All students offered DSA have confirmed offers on condition that they meet the stipulated COP in their letter of offer. In *most* cases, the stipulated COP is 200, ie the COP for getting into Express Stream. (Note I say *most* because different schools can stipulate different COP).

If a student doesn't meet the stipulated COP in his PSLE, say he scores <200, he will not be able to gain admission to the school. There are cases of sports DSA students who scored <200 and lost their places in the schools.

So yes, the schools will reject students if their PSLE results do not meet the COP stipulated in their DSA letter of offer.

What value are we teaching the next generation ? Promises are meant to be broken ? What is honour ? If you signed a contract, you are expected to keep it.

Kids only ? The adults are making the decision for the kids. Let's not kid ourselves.

[/quote]In my opinion, the schools are not merely trying to please the parents. they are also trying to get the best pupils. We have different viewpoints here.

For me, if schools are so altruistic and had wanted to please the parents, NUSH, RI and HCI would not have held their DSA on the same day and could have shown more flexibility and understanding to the kids who had to rush from one school to another on the same day. This despite many parents asking them for alternative dates.
