Suzuki Violin - Discussion

Really? I find that no matter what, my boys will memorise after practising for awhile.Hi Chamonix
I realised that after three over months of teaching with notes reading, some other children became heavily relied on the book, which means that they now unable to play songs by memory. And they absolutely have no idea when to play notes with the sharp key or natural key. The teacher has now moving in a faster pace. We now have 2 more songs to go to complete the book 1.
Regards,

Hi Ocean,
I can only speculate that it's the result of a lack of practice. Besides diligent practices, the kids must also be exposed constantly to the pieces they are learning. That will help them greatly in mastering the pieces.
2 pieces more to go? That's really fast! I'm sure your son is looking forward to performing on stage next year. Encourage your son to keep up the good work. He's doing fabulous! :celebrate: -
hmm…long time never come to this thread…think we are postponing boy’s violin lesson…dun want to give him too much stress…haha…

For parents with kids learning Suzuki book 1, these lyrics are fun to play along with.

Does anyone know where I can find suzuki related materials (e.g. books, games, practice tips) in Singapore? Thanks in advance.

Hi chamonix, thanks for the great website! Just to share that the Pre Twinkle \"Up Like A Rocket\" is for ensuring the bow hold is steady, ie. hold the bow upright and move the arm up, down, left & right while chanting the rhyme, ensuring the bow doesn't tilt sideways. For parents with kids learning Suzuki book 1, these lyrics are fun to play along with.

Hi Chamonix
Have read your postings on this thread with interest as my DD is also learning violin under the Suzuki method. In fact, my DD also performed at the same graduation concert as your son back in March, except that she started much earlier and with another teacher in a group lesson. I must say that sometimes when they start young, it is more difficult for the parents as it is very hard to make them stand still and play the violin. Anyway, I was so glad to finish the Twinkle song as it was getting too long for us to get past that stage (she was losing interest and so was I). And the key reason for that, was that we really couldn’t progress faster as some students in the group were just very slow. Fortunately, things have changed for the better now and she has learned to play Minuet 1 and 3. Do you feel that it is less taxing or more taxing on the parent in 1-1 class? I have music background but zero voilin knowledge. In a group class, there are times when I can get very lost myself as things are becoming more complicated. There are also times when I end up teaching DD the wrong thing, only to realise it much later. So 1-1 class should be better in this sense as the teacher could be more focused on 1 parent-child pair, rather than splitting the attention across so many others? On the other hand, group lesson can be more fun for the young children and I notice that there is some competition as the children try to keep up with one another in learning new songs / more songs.
Could I also ask what song is you son at now? Just a guage to see if my DD’s group class is still slow or not.
