All About Measuring Home-School Distance

Wow! Good stuff, unfortunately a little inaccurate. My home is right on the cusp of 2k from favoured school, counted as within on this map, but officially out according to school.
You can check out the following links plotted using google map. You can also key in your address or postal code to counter check if you are located within 1-2km from the schoolryanfund:

Hi,
Does anyone has accurate information on the residential projects that are within 1km of Nanyang Primary School or Tao Nan School?
Thanks!

Yes. That's what I did.Call and ask ah? Will they entertain bo?
So tell them I'm staying where and which blk and they will let me know if I stay within 1km, 1-2 or 2km or more?ryes:
Of course you can also choose to go to the school, and take the opportunity to reccee. If you are going to the school, you don't have to spend the money obtaining the information from SLA. I understand from fellow forummers that schools use the benchmark from SLA, so, they (distance used by the school and SLA) should be the same.Yeah, that's what I\"m thinking, since now is P1 registration time, I think all the schs sld have the map up right? That's why thinking take this opportunity to go and see. Arbo I will pay for the information via SLA

Yes - either you go to the school personally to check from its board map (where there will be 2 circles drawn on the map, 1km line and 2km line); or you pay to use the SLA one.
Just wonder, if you call the school, will the admin staff entertain such request? Would you trust the info given by him/her? -

Yes, I have seen the map for Maris Stella and it is not that accurate. The 1km radius seemed to be wider as some properties defined as between 1-2km from the school (based on SLA's searches) are inside the 1km radius.

To be very sure (especially for borderline cases), SLA has an e-service that will list all the pri schools within 1km to a given property (say your address) but it cost $8.40. -

Please go to the school and check it out for a peace of mind. For my cases, I was told that I'm within 2km at start of PV and guess what happen on date of registration.....I'm outside 2km from the computer system...so suck thumb cos system can't be wrong. However, I'm lucky that there is no balloting for that school...can you imagine if I'm not so fortunate.Yes - either you go to the school personally to check from its board map (where there will be 2 circles drawn on the map, 1km line and 2km line); or you pay to use the SLA one.

Which is why I advocate going to the school personally! It is also to check out the school’s amenities, and its surrounding. I don’t believe there are many friendly and helpful staff to ‘entertain’ call requests especially during this busy period, they may even provide inaccurate information somemore!

Going to school might not be a good idea at this point due to H1N1. Schools are trying to reduce visits from parents/ potential parents.
SLA site as cited earlier is a reliable and good resource. Paying $8.40 for a piece of mind is worth it. -
I like the maps by http://www.elite.com.sg - they circle the area within 1kM and 2KM. It's free, but this is only for those 'planning' parents.
If parents are registering, probably much better to pay less than $10 to SLA. -

Or those parents trying to get a property within 1km, pls make sure you check this on SLA before the purchase and not based on what the agents said.I like the maps by http://www.elite.com.sg - they circle the area within 1kM and 2KM. It's free, but this is only for those 'planning' parents.

SLA actually has 2 services.
To be very sure (especially for borderline cases), SLA has an e-service that will list all the pri schools within 1km to a given property (say your address) but it cost $8.40.
One (http://www.inlis.gov.sg/PSLS/PSLS-PSL.aspx?strService=PSLS&strProduct=PSL) gives you a list of all primary schools near a specific home address. This service costs $8.40. :moneyflies:
However, if you just want to measure the distance from your home (or any other address) to a specific school, the cheaper alternative is http://www.inlis.gov.sg/PSLS/PSLS-DC.aspx?strService=PSLS&strProduct=DC. This costs only $2.10.
