Hi ngbrdad,
RI is having a consultation session today till 5pm. You can go down and have a chat with them. Their PSLE supplementary intake (appeal phase) is open from yesterday till 22 dec. You can apply online. I was advised not to put RI as first choice (son aggregate = 254) cos their COP has been between 259-262. Better to apply to other schools first while waiting for appeal result which they will sent out before Christmas. Not putting RI as first choice will not reduce your appeal chances because the schools will not know your choices, info only privy to MOE (unless the schools you appeal to specifically ask for your choices).
Not sure about the appeal process for the other schools like NUSH. Sorry, cant help you there.
Probably cannot go down today as need to work.
So can just appeal/apply online ? -
Hi! I need some advice. My ds got 257+2. What are his chances of getting into HCI? I am undecided between NJC and RV as 2nd choice. Is it tough at HCI eg. long hours? Thanks.
-
I scored 257+3(HCL).
These are the schools I would like to enter(Not in any order):NJC, DHS, Cedar and River Valley. Could anyone from NJC, DHS or River Valley give me some information on the special programmes there? Thanks! :thankyou: I'm in a total dilemma over which school to go to. :?: -
dear all,
My son scored 239. will he stand a chance if we appealed ( i understand their COP is 241)? -

Those on IP don't take O-level HCL unlike A-level students. They hve the option to take CL at HL or SL depending on their aptitude.
Most in ACSI IP (that is, headed for IB in yr 5/6), do their HMT in Yr 4. My fren's son did that this yr. And they have a looooooong holiday from Nov to end Jan before they start on Yr 5!!!
Do IB students take O level CL or HCL ?ngbrdad:

My opinion, is easier taking SL CL IB vs A-Level H1 CL. O-level HCL is the toughest amongst these three.
I think the other IP schools start as usual in the 2nd week of Jan, right? -

Just saw on the ACS thread that if a students clear HCL at year 4, he needs to take another 2nd language (not Chinese) for year 5 and 6.

But formal lessons after O level students admitted.

IMO, it really depends on your child. eg. when my elder son went to NJC, he was all excited. He didn't have friends going there. There was just 1 schoolmate (ex-classmate for 1 yr, but not really \"friend\"). He just made many new friends among his cohort and beyond and enjoys this time there.
It's all about friends. Where are his friends going? My son did not like it there because he is the really sporty type and not nerdy at all. He was in the MEP, as well, but he could not connect to anyone, because he is very fun loving, his brand and liking for music is completely different, and he jokes all day long. Wrong culture for him. He would have been better off in ACSI, since he was an old ACS boy. So really depends on your child. There are many boys who enjoyed their stay in RI as well. Let him choose. I should have let him go with his friends, instead of persuading him to go to my alma mater. -

Hi Hexagon,
Hi ngbrdad,ngbrdad:
How is the appeal process like ?
Must wait until the S1 posting result is out ?
If my DS was previously on WL for RI thru DSA but unsuccessful, and now his T score is quite far off, is there any chance of appealing ?
Or in Case of NJC, he cleared the first round, ranked about top 4% in the Hast Test but was unsuccessful in second round ?
Or NUSH where he also cleared the first but not second round, and has an A* in both Science and Math ?
Must put these as first choice in order to appeal later even though the t score is definitely below COP ?

Did they tell you if they ever admit any student with scores below their COP on appeal? Or appeal cases also must be above cop. -
Fourth:
Noticed that NYJC has high COP. It is not SAP, not IP..... curious why it is so popular??
Sorry, \"Fourth\" - you are referring to NYJC - as in, Nanyang JC? That's JC ... COP not that high. It is SAP and affiliated to the Chung Cheng group of schools. Is it very popular? I guess - for a 2nd tier JC, it could be considered popular. Or....... are you confusing it with NYGH - Nanyang Girls' High School which is an IP school leading to HCI?
