Travel: Taiwan - Taipei
-
I bought my tickets online. If you are paying by credit card, you only need to be at the station 30 mins prior to departure time.
There are many trains to Hualien but if you want to book the Taroko train (express) ie 2 hours 5 mins traveling time, it is advisable to book online. My gf didn't book online but bought her tickets from the station. She took the 3 hours train. If you are not in a hurry, it is ok to take the normal train as you get to enjoy the scenery. For us, we have 3 young children so prefer the quickest mode of transport.Pen88n:
Hi everyone, I need some advice on booking train from Taipei to Hualian online. I initially checked up the timetable and realised can only book 2 weeks in advance. Now I went in trying to book for Dec, and after booking, realised tickets have to be collected within 2 days (person not in Taipei yet how to collect tickets??). Can anyone advise how you go about getting the train tickets to Hualian and if I were to buy later, is it possible that it will be fully booked? Any other advice? Thanks

Remember to bring some raincoats for the family. I bought from Daiso, very compact and light. Throw after end of the trip. Don't bother to buy disposables, they don't last.

[quote=\"sunnyling\"]Just come back Taipei and had us Mr. Wu for my transfer. He is really very patient and accommodating. His mini Van got no problem to squeeze us, we had 7 adults and 3 kids and we feel very spacious. Except when the airport transfer time which we had alot of luggage and need to squeeze a bit. But if without luggage, the van can accommodate us and still spacious.

Thank you, RaisinTan and Blessed Homemaker. I better go online and book train tickets soon.
Those of you interested to go Leefoo Village, please note that buying tickets TW599 online will be cheaper than buying there TW899. -
Hi Pen88n
I just booked my train tickets yesterday morning. Do read the blog post posted by raisintan first. It is very helpful. I actually kept the blog post open in a separate window as I went about booking the train tickets (for reference). It is advisable to collect the tickets when you reach taipei, i.e. don’t wait till the actual day (to collect 30 min in advance) in case you reach the station late and they release your tickets for sale. -
Any recommend places to visit assuming I have about 1.5 days free & easy? There is a 1 day tour that cover hot spring & city tour so need to check where are the places they do cover.

Could I have the actual website to TW899? -
I was trying to do Internet booking for train from Taipei to Hualien for 4 adults and 4 kids but didn’t get past the first page because It loked like the max no of tickets allowed was 6. There was also no field to select adult/child ticket (is there a diff in price?), nor was there a choice between single trip and round trip. Can someone advise me please?
Someone suggested we could book a mini bus instead of going by train. Is that a good idea in terms of cost anytime? Thank you! -
anyone has a local guide to recommend? just for taipei. pls pm me
thanks!

U have to split into 2 bookings. U'll be able to choose adult and kids tickets at the payment page, if I remember correctly. Follow the instructions in the previous blog link I posted. It's very helpful.
Travelling by train is definitely cheaper and faster. Cos if by coach and u're engaging the same driver for hualien day tour, u'll have to pay for his lodging. We took a train from Taipei to hualien and engage this driver for train-hotel transport and day tour. Very humble and nice man. His contact 李建樑 0933-914583 -
thanks, raisintan! One more question: What is their definition of child? 9 year old considered kid?
