I didn’t read my son’s psychological report so many times cos I know whatever that is written inside there was what I told the psychologist and now the diagnostic are passe already…
I needed that report more like a confirmation to say my son is ASD n get into eipic.
My son never do any iq test… How is it being tested??
Just now my son went to ask this NT kid "what is your name" at the playground… The NT kid never reply lol… But when the NT kid tries to tell my son to follow him, my son just "ahhhhh" and ran off… But I am still happy my son learn what to say when seeing his peers like asking him for his name… -
Mummies,
Curious, are your kids behaviour consistent at home & in public? Instance if he gives good eye contact at home, does he give others good eye contact?
I’m as puzzled as ever. For my son, he gives us good eye contact, has all level of joint attention with us, will ask us questions like ‘what are you eating dad?’, bring things to show us, ask me to look at him during play, has the social awareness ie he knows who comes to school late, who’s father came to pick him up etc. But when out, he start to look away when people are talking to him, doesn’t ask social questions to others. Though I’ve seen him approaching adults for help. Also he doesn’t fidget much at school but at he’s social group he’s a little fidgety though not disruptive & still within he’s Space. In other words, we know he has the social capability but don’t seem to have the social intent. So he’s like day & night at home & social setting. How are your kids like? -

I was not explained in detail the 6 criteria either. The psychologist only told us that he met 5/6 criteria needed and hence his is a \"complicated\" case which she finally diagnosed as NOS.
Fizz, what are the 6 critiera to confirm the diagnosis of autism? We were not told of any specific criteria during my daughter's diagnosis.Fizz:
Actually PDD may not be so called milder than other categories on the spectrum. It really depends on the severity of the symptoms. In theory, these kids are PDD because they have symptoms of autism but they do not satisfy 6 of the criteria to be medically termed as autistic.
I did some googling after he was diagnosed. You can read this lengthy article to have an idea of the criterion.

He had his little friends from playground celebrating this with him, I am not sure if he knows. He received a good toy from my best, had fun playing with it. Definitely made his day! -

No test was conducted but one was scheduled next year for his P1 readiness assessment. He is considered mild ASD, I assume is HF ASD as well? All therapist whom seem him say he is mild... -

Hi,
Arielmermaid, care to share your plans for your child on school placement options when he is due for primary school education? My daughter is currently 5 yo and I am looking into the school placement options.ArielMermaid:
He is currently 6 years old, in the afternoon session. There are about 6 others in his class, with 3 teachers and some volunteers.
Hrmmmm... as for his progress, when he was 3 years old, he ran around whenever he had the chance, spoke only a few words and was totally unregulated. Now, at 6+, generally he listens to instructions but knows who he can bully and \"override\", can sit down and work with me for about 2 hours at a stretch, talks alot, can read and write and do simple math. Of course, he still have his quirks and autistic and socially- inappropriate behaviour and other challenges.
I have to add that other than Rainbow, he also has a lot of classes and therapies. In fact, until recently, his mondays to saturdays were totally filled up with classes and therapies.
I find that there is still a lot of emphasis on academics at this early age of 7-8 years old, and wonder whether this is the right direction for special needs children.
TIA.
I have actually registered him for a mainstream primary as well as sent him for assessment at Pathlight. If he is eligible for PL, I should be placing him there because I feel that he'd be much happier there. Of course I do worry abt discrimination in the future. However, I think his happiness now comes first; as for the future, who knows what may happen. If he's able to improve socially, pple wouldn't care that he was in PL. So unless he improves dramatically during these few months.....
Anyway, FYI, there will no longer be a preparatory track in PL. There will however be a \"foundation primary one\" (for students who needs more help) and \"standard primary one\". Thus, some 7 year-olds may have to do 2 years of Primary 1. No more admission for 6 yo. -

Anyone has kid who can read but cannot spell?
